The online reviews of Outlaws are confusing to me. I have eaten here dozens of times and it has always delivered-- very solid, consistent quality food, service, atmosphere. The online reviews seem to be either overly ecstatic (as though they were posted by friends and family) or depressingly poor (as if they were posted by competitors.) Let me clarify. What Outlaws is NOT: a destination high-end au courant frou-frou bbq restaurant where everything is sold by the pound, a la cart, and plopped on butcher paper on a big industrial stainless steel tray for $35-45 per person at checkout. It is not Terry Black's or Lockhart's or Heim's or any place likely to be reviewed by Texas Monthly's Barbecue Editor. What Outlaws IS; a comfortable, clean, reliable neighborhood bbq (and breakfast!) purveyor of significantly better than average meats and sides (but by no means 5 Star material.) An old-fashioned, rustic sense of decor that exudes That 70s Joint atmosphere contributes to its distinctly blue-collar no-nonsense atmosphere. Reviewers who complain about price have evidently not eaten bbq since Those 70s Joints went out of business. Prices are actually more than fair, especially given the slightly above average to above average portion sizes. They even have BOGO chopped beef sandwiches Monday thru Thursday (a steal of a deal!) The staff is friendly and efficient, but it's a bbq joint, so if you are expecting fall-all-over-the-place tip-sniffing service, you have clearly missed your target. I live in Arlington, and I will drive to further for top line bbq, but if I am in the area and need a good, fast meal I never think twice about stopping here. Really, it should be 4 1/2 stars just for the consistency of experience. Hands down better than most any chain bbq or neighborhood bbq place. Oh-- and it will generally only cost you $10-18 per person, depending on what you get. Excellent lunch time specials to boot. P.S. Breakfast (eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, etc) is really good. Same standards of quality and value apply here as well. And you would be remiss if you failed to try their hamburgers or CFS (chicken-fried steak for you...
Read moreI’m not gonna start a brisket war here, but it’s not my go-to at Outlaw’s. That said, if you catch me on a weekday around lunchtime, there’s a very good chance I’m tearing into their 2-for-1 chopped beef sandwich special like a raccoon in a dumpster. It makes you wonder why you’d ever pay full price for happiness.
But the real secret weapon at Outlaw’s? The diner-style breakfast. That weekday special with two eggs, two meats, and a biscuit or toast is the kind of thing that makes you believe in second chances—and third breakfasts. It’s the perfect way to start your day, especially if your idea of “portion control” is “yes, please.”
The vibe here is old-school warm—you order at the counter, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the service stops there. The waitstaff is always kind, quick with a smile, and will absolutely make sure you feel welcome. And then there’s Amy. Sweet Amy, the soul of this place. She’s been there nearly 25 years and still treats every customer like they’re her favorite regular.
If Southern charm were an Olympic sport, Alex would have a gold medal and her face on a cereal box.
And speaking of hospitality, Lenny—the owner—is a legend. He’ll often swing by your table just to shake your hand and say hello. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or your fiftieth, he’s always got a warm welcome and a firm handshake, like a barbecue version of the mayor.
Need something catered? Outlaw’s has you covered. Their catering service is top-notch—on time, delicious, and guaranteed to impress everyone from your picky cousin to your BBQ-snob boss. And if you’re planning an event, don’t sleep on their banquet room. It’s spacious, comfortable, and perfect for birthdays, reunions, or just pretending you’re fancy for a night.
It’s the kind of place that sticks with you: in your memory, on your shirt, and probably in your arteries. And I wouldn’t have it...
Read moreI Went here for dinner with few co-workers. I ordered pulled chicken and asked for white meat only , no sauce. I was trying to understand how big the portions were, the cashier was very impatient with me. I asked if I could have a side salad instead of the sides listed there and she was sort of rude about it and said no. Fast forward, we get our food, I have a chicken, bone in, with sauce on it. I tell them nicely that I had asked for no sauce, they take it back and bring me another plate with chicken on the bone. I look confused and don't say anything till my co-workers receive their food, I then nicely asked the servers about it and asked if they can change it for me, the guy was MUCH NICER than the girl working there and said yeah but I'd have to throw away your chicken, I settled and decided to just eat it rather than waste food.. It was SUPER DRY. Then I proceeded to my mac and cheese which I was so excited about! It was HORRIBLE! for me not finish my food .. that says a lot! I did not finish the mac and cheese.. there was hardly any cheese in it and the green beans were probably not bad, just not my taste.
The only good food item here was the fried pickles!
The food was Oo...kkkkk but the service was so horrible! The girl was in a rush to go to a party and her bf was waiting for her during this time. This was BY FAR THE LEAST FRIENDLY restaurant/joint I've ever been to!!!! I would understand the lack of customer service, if they were busy! but they had 1 other customer in addition to us, which was the bf waiting!!! Again, the guy was much nicer and much...
