My wife and I stopped by at this restaurant on a Friday evening. The decor is inviting, the atmosphere is pleasant and all the staff greeting and serving us were welcoming and professional. On special was a dry aged brisket double cheese burger with fries It sounded too good to pass up so I ordered it along with a totally roasted cider to drink. My wife ordered a chicken and dumpling soup which was the soup of the day. I was looking forward to the food. Having previously worked in a fish and chip shop back in London England, I would be lying if I said I didn’t know my way around a potato. When our food arrived at the table I was slightly irked by the meager offering of fries. The portion would not even amount to a medium russet potato. I’d say less than 20 individual fries in total as an estimate. Annoyed yet undeterred I requested some mayonnaise from the waitress and proceeded to try some fries. Dry, stale on the inside not fluffy. Warm not hot, no crisp or crunch to them at all and very salty. They tasted like they had sat under a heat lamp or on a hot plate for far too long. Believing I had perhaps just had a bad fry I tasted another two. Same results followed. I asked my wife to sample one and she came to the same conclusions. I set them aside and decided to focus on my burger. It looked juicy, and something you want to sink your teeth into. The combination of the cut of beef (brisket), the bacon and cheese along with the bun was a good first bite. As I ate more of it however it too like the fries were far too salty. A waitress came back with some mayonnaise and I informed her that the fries were simply too bad and I was asked if I wanted them taken away which I agreed to. I continued to eat my burger despite the aforementioned saltiness. My wife also mentioned that her soup was very salty and decided not to finish the soup but rather set it aside. I asked for the bill when our table was cleared. Around 5 minutes later the waitress who took my fries away returned with a healthy sized bowl of fries. this was odd as I was only asked if I wanted them taken away. I was not told they would be replaced. I may have also invited them to do a fresh burger also had I known. She stated she didn’t want me to leave unsatisfied so she asked that some more were prepared for me as my meal included fries so she wanted me to have some. I informed her that although I appreciated her customer service, I had already finished eating the burger, and in all honesty it was too late to redeem the meal as I was already unsatisfied with the food.
Another member of staff attended our table and informed me that due to the poor experience we had just had the bill would be taken care of and invited us to come back another night in hope that we would have a much better experience.
I always give honest reviews and I must say regardless of the bill the staff were the best thing about or experience at Linear. Although doubtful, perhaps my wife and I shall indeed return to Linear. If we do, it would be thanks to the great customer service,...
Read moreWe (a small group of three) arrived 45 minutes before mid-day close for a quick lunch, as Linear is one of the only places within walking distance from our workplace. We were immediately told upon entering that the restaurant would be closing at 2PM, and that we needed to order our food ASAP if we wanted to eat there. The waitress was clearly unhappy about our presence and did not attempt to hide it. We were very understanding and said we would be quick.
After seating us, she hovered over the table as we made our selections, offering short answers to any questions we may have had about the menu, seeming irritated by our questions regarding gluten (a member of our party has celiac disease). A member of our group had ordered a glass of wine, and as we waited for our food to come out, the waitress asked, "Do you want one more glass of wine before we close?" which by her tone, felt like she just wanted the chance to emphasize how much she wanted us gone. This was especially odd since our food had not even come out yet and there was nothing we could do to speed up the process.
When our food arrived, one member of our group asked about dressing for her veggie wrap. She waitress replied very shortly that they no longer have that sauce, and as our group member attempted to ask for alternative dressing options, the waitress cut her off and repeated that they don't have the first dressing in question and then walked away.
I personally ordered a chicken club sandwich. I took one bite and found that it was slimy, which made me too uneasy to continue eating. However, I did not feel comfortable mentioning this to the waitress, as she seemed irritated by our presence in general and likely would have been even less friendly had I sent it back or asked for something else instead. I just didn't eat.
I have had good meals at Linear before, and honestly, I can deal with a one-off poor experience with the food itself, but the rudeness of the staff really ruined the experience and atmosphere for what should have been a quick, simple lunch--that did in fact fall within business hours. We remained friendly throughout the meal despite the jabs and side-eyes from...
Read moreI went to Linear Restaurant thinking I was taking my mom to a nice restaurant for Mother’s Day. The restaurant is very cute and it’s on the water which is a plus; however, I’m not sure how this restaurant has a 4.6 rating. If I could go less than a 1 star I would. My mom ordered a garden salad. It looked like it was lettuce thrown onto a plate. She also order the Baja sea bass. The top layer of the fish had scales that she has to remove before consumption. The fish came served on cranberry beans which were hard. Physically too hard to eat. I know how beans are supposed to be eaten, after all I am Spanish. The assortment of food did not look pretty or presentable for $26. When my mom received her plate I thought it must have been a mistake.
I ordered order blueberry BBQ half chicken (a daily special). The chicken was so tough it was hard to cut with a fork and knife. It was served over cold (like refrigerated cold) what I think was polenta (I could be wrong on whether it was polenta or not). The polenta had vegetables in it but, the freezing cold polenta was a terrible combination with hot chicken and braised kale. The corn bread was the only thing I ate. I had to give the waitress my full uneaten plate because it was so terrible. I tried to stomach my plate the best I could but then could no longer pretend.
My mother ordered rhubarb galette for dessert which was less than impressive. I ordered the dark chocolate mousse for dessert which would have been great without the fruity filling.
I feel terrible that I brought my mom to an expensive restaurant to leave hungry. It was an expensive mistake. I will say the best thing about the whole night was the waitress, Christina F. She was very sweet and kind. I am so disappointed in our experience at this restaurant. I wish I didn’t have to write a novel about how awful everything was, but for my own sanity I am. I feel a bit tricked and scammed 😭.
Check #56, table 304, ordered at 7:59pm. I’m hoping the restaurant makes...
