🎉 SILVA = Big Room: A Grand Opening to Remember! 🎶
We had the pleasure of attending the inaugural event at SILVA - Big Room, and what a night it was! The team behind this new venue clearly poured their hearts into getting it ready, and their decision to host a free soft opening for friends and supporters was a smart move to fine-tune the experience.
✨ Valerie June kicked things off with her signature charisma and storytelling charm—her performance was a perfect match for the space. While the crowd was a bit chatty (understandably excited about the new venue and reconnecting with familiar faces), the overall vibe was electric.
🪑 The venue itself is cool, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. We loved the generous spacing between seats, which made it feel intimate yet comfortable. The sound system still needs some tweaking, but that’s exactly what soft openings are for—and we’re confident they’ll get it dialed in.
🍸 Shoutout to the team for quickly adapting by opening an additional bar to keep lines moving—smart and responsive! The bathrooms were large and efficient, even with a sold-out crowd, and the check-in process for 21+ drink access was smooth and streamlined.
👮♀️ Staff and security were present, helpful, and welcoming throughout the night. It’s clear this venue is going to be a huge asset to Grand Rapids—a place where the community can gather for great music and entertainment in a setting that fosters connection, not just spectacle.
🌆 SILVA - Big Room is more than a venue—it’s an investment in our city’s culture, economy, and creative spirit. We’re excited to see how it grows and brings even more life to this up-and-coming area.

Read moreI was there for the Valerie June show on 5/26/25. The venue seems like a cool building with potential if a few glaring issues are cleared up. I think the sound needs to be improved in there a little. The biggest issues need to be fixed ASAP. Those are security issues as well as the talking during the show.
Security - There were no metal detectors or wands at all from what I saw. This seems wild to me. I do not think artists or the audience would really appreciate knowing that fact.
Talking - Ambient talking is one thing, but the roar that was ongoing during the performance was pretty disruptive to the show. This seems a little prudish, but anyone who was there can attest to this being an issue. Especially if you have an artist who is performing essentially an acoustic set with narratives throughout, you need to control the crowd in my opinion. Perhaps this issue is related to the sound/acoustics in the venue, but it has to be figured out. I prefer The Intersection at this point for this reason alone.
*This review is based on the inaugural event for this venue. All of this could likely already be cleared up or in progress to be. I hope so because the place has...
Read moreWe attended the first show and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The line moved quickly, and it was clear that both staff and management were fully engaged—an additional bar was even opened to help serve guests faster, which was a thoughtful touch. The venue itself is beautiful—spacious yet still manages to feel intimate and welcoming. Even the bathrooms were well-designed and large enough to avoid the usual wait, especially at the ladies’ room. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. We’re already looking forward to...
