I wanted to shop locally and support a local business but I deeply regret doing so. I completed an online form over the weekend that I understood to be the order form - there was no way to pay online. I received a call a few days later - luckily I happened to be available to take the call and they collected my credit card information. It would have been helpful if this process was explained up front as I was ready to order elsewhere when my order had not been completed. I was very specific that the recipient preferred tea over coffee and did not care for cheese. The person was nice enough but was not attentive to my requests. For this price point, I expected something amazing and what was sent was small and could have been assembled from a discount store for $40 or so. The delivery fee of $35 should have included some communication about the delivery but that was just not the case. When I received the receipt for almost $200 - I responded to share my concerns and the response was not at all helpful but rather told me that I should be grateful as they went $10 over my budget to make it special. Gosh I hate to use the big national companies but at least you can specify your preferences and you know what you are getting. Definitely not what I asked for, wanted or hoped for - it would have been great to have a new go to place to have gifts...
Read moreExcellent specialty store, with a wide variety of good wines, booze, and beer. Their produce section is actually really good, as well. Specialty sodas had me start going there as a kid, but the friendly service and wide selection keeps me coming back, even 10+ years later. If you're looking for pairing suggestions or a liquor/wine/beer you aren't sure about, these folks will happily help you figure out what kind of food/liquor/beer/wine goes with your situation or tastes. They have literally never let me down in this regard.
The deli is fantastic as well, with awesome food and desserts. Try the hummus, stuffed chicken, tiramisu, the cheesecakes, or whatever for your next picnic or lunch. And the pizza is a little expensive but freaking amazing and worth every penny.
Prices are a little higher on everyday goods, being local and whatnot, but the booze prices are all very reasonable, mostly comparable to the big box stores, and their sales are usually really awesome. Produce prices are very good, too, and buying salad by weight instead of by package is definitely the right way to go about it. Pick up a bag that's the right size without worrying about buying bulk to save money only to have your salad go bad in the fridge because you bought too much.
Anyway, I love this place, have been coming here for years. I recommend it to anyone....
Read moreI live in Wisconsin but have heard about this place over the years as a go to when in Grand Rapids, especially if you are a wine drinker.
I finally had my chance this week. It's better than I had heard. I also had the opportunity and privilege to meet and spend some time with the owner. It is always nice to meet an owner that is as passionate about customer satisfaction as he is about his products. That is a rarety today.
He has a wonderful seemingly handpicked variety of wines that every staff member had knowledge of. The store is nicely layed out and very tidy. There was quite a bit of traffic at 4 in the afternoon but everything looked in place and staff was constantly looking around to help customers as well a straighten. I especially like overhearing them ask customers what they liked, what they were buying the wine for, etc. in order to help them pick a wine they would enjoy
I bought wine as well as some accessories to making Martinis and cocktails. I also enjoyed some meat and cheese and extras from the deli.
All in all - TOP NOTCH
I hope to...
