Speciation Cellars — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

We love speciation!! So much so, that my now husband and I went on our first date there. So when it was time to find a wedding venue, we reached out to see if it was possible to host it at Speciation. Thankfully Mitch and the crew said yes, and we had literally the best party ever.

When I say working with the specation team for our wedding was a breeze, I mean it. Any questions I had was answered quickly and with detail. The day of the wedding Jane and Carly took such good care of us and all of our guests. They handled our crew with grace and everyone had a great time. We were able to get into the venue early to do all the set up so that we could have a few hours of peace before the big day started. It was a beautiful space to have our wedding and we are so thankful we did.

We also choose to have the team make us a wedding beer. We got to chat with Mitch for the ideas we had and he brought them to life. We went with a hot toddy inspired beer. They even let us submit our own label for the beer. It was a great gift for our guests, to have on tap during the wedding, and have some extras to drink in our first year married.

If there was a 3rd space (not home but just as good, where you can relax and feel safe and make community), Speciation is it. Everyone who works here is completely lovely. They’re kind, thoughtful, and good humans, the sort of people you want to be friends with. You can put your feet up here and just be yourself. I haven’t yet touched on the beer yet but the beer is completely delicious and stellar, exceptional. It’s something to write home about, with interesting flavors, delicious and unexpected combinations (even for this foodie). They are known for their sours, but their slushies are extraordinary and I love their NA options. I always find something I love here, and not just one something, many somethings. Speciation is the place to meet friends or to come and work or to make new friends or to play trivia. There’s even a patio with lawn games. Speciation is the place to come in Grand Rapids, whether you’re from here or visiting for the weekend....

In lieu of a traditional wedding rehearsal dinner, my partner and I rented out Speciation for a Friday night event before our Saturday wedding, and it was amazing!! About 90 guests attended, and everyone had a really great time. Mitch was a great and reliable communicator during event planning, and he offered a lot of different great ideas to help make our night special. He even offered to create a custom cocktail without extra charge! All the staff the night of were super helpful and friendly, and all of our guests (even the ones who weren't at all interested in sours) easily found a drink (or two!) that they enjoyed, and everyone had a really great time.
