It was move in day at Grand Valley State University for our daughter, and we wanted to have breakfast with her before we drove back home. First we tried IHop, but they had a 40 minute wait. Next we tried Cracker Barrel, and they had an hour and a half wait. So, I Googled, "Breakfast restaurants near me." And The New Beginnings Restaurant popped up on my radar. I called and they said there was only a five minute wait, and since they were only a few minutes drive from Cracker Barrel, we decided to come here. And we are thankful we did. A generous menu selection was topped off by generous portions and great taste. My wife said the coffee was pretty good, and she's critical. My daughter enjoyed her waffles, bacon and hash browns, and my wife and I enjoyed our scrambled eggs and ham with toast. Come here for the generous, great tasting food and you'll forget the IHops and Cracker...
Read moreI’m a little conflicted about this review. I know times are hard and portions are getting smaller while prices are going up -but over $30 for 2 people eating primarily eggs, toast, potatoes, and coffee is a bit steep. The food was good, and the portion of eggs and potatoes were as expected, but the meat portions were quite smaller than I’m used to (country fried steak and corned beef hash). The hash looked like it was a good-size portion, but it was a very thin layer laying on top of a bunch of eggs. I will say, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the country fried steak was good). It wasn’t bad food, but it didn’t knock my socks off and I had a bit of sticker shock. The environment was clean -wait staff weren’t particularly friendly, and I had trouble getting a coffee refill. It was good, but I’ve had better and larger portions elsewhere so we likely...
Read moreI’ve had much better experiences at other NBR in the GR area. When we went there was only one side open which seemed to be the smaller side. It felt super small and packed like sardines, but what made it super awkward was the space was so small you could hear everyone in the restaurants conversation. You could even hear the cooks in the kitchen and people being rung up at the register. Everyone stayed quiet because if you had a conversation the whole place could overhear.... awkward to say the least. This place definitely is in need of a radio to get some ambient noise in there, until then it is too uncomfortable to go back. Also I’ve ordered the French toast at other NBR and was given Texas toast as default which was perfect, but this location gave me run of the mill white bread which was sad looking. I’ll drive further to another...
