Amazing space. Great addition to the community!
We were seated right away by a friendly hostess. Relaxing atmosphere. Crowded but the velvet furniture seemed to absorb the sound. It was easy to talk at a normal volume. Many modern, clean, crisp elements in the space from the red and blue velvet furniture to the decor, the slate gray floor tiles, ornate black and gold ceiling tiles, the room is well-lit, the tan marble panels behind the bar stools on the bar wall are backlit from the floor to the bar top. The lighting covers every inch of the room with the typical low-medium lighting ambiance of an intimate bar setting. The lamps at each table add a classy feeling.
We sat across the room from the performance stage. The server mentioned jazz and other types of performances are planned. Few TVs in the room as if the focus of the room is for social interaction and occassional live performances. No bar games or machines. There are 3 good-sized TVs behind the bar. It seems like the kind of place that could welcome a low-key jazz crowd on Saturday night and still be inviting to excited football fans on Sunday.
The chairs and tables are set up in clusters where the furniture is connected rather than all separate chairs. Hard to explain, but basically 4 connected velvet chairs with their backs to each other facing a different table. Likely part of the theme of social connection represented in the space.
The overall vibe feels welcoming yet intimate even in a busy room. The "dungeon" theme is embodied by elegant themed elements throughout the space primarily decor along the walls: heavy dungeon doors, wood beams, a portculis, barred dungeon-style windows, and the natural stone rock walls. Hardly a place for punishment unless you're tortured by a good time.
The drink menu was impressive with an impressive variety of draft beers like a Bavarian Hoffbrau considering that specialty cocktails seem to be their focus including 4 non-alcoholic cocktails. LaNima tequila is also available. The Dungeon owners also own LaNima tequila.
Our server greeted us right away. We ordered drinks, which came back in a few short minutes. When she returned, I ordered the Mango Civache appetizer and a Smash Burger with fries for dinner and my guest ordered a whitefish sandwich. The mango civache was a mix of with mango, lime juice, cilantro and I believe cucumber and onion served with homemade tortilla chips. I don't remember exact ingredients or the type of fish or if there was fish because we devoured it quickly. I meant to ask our server and forgot. I couldn't taste any fish, which I think is the whole point of civache, but I don't believe it said it was vegetarian in the menu. No offense to the chef, but to my unrefined palate, it tasted like world class mango salsa. And I love any salsa especially mango!
I wasn't watching the time, but it felt like 15-20 minutes from when we ordered that the main dishes arrived, but the appetizer was out quick and only a few minutes after we finished, dinner arrived. Well-timed. Enough time to chat after the appetizer and have a break, but short enough it felt quick in a busy place that just opened.
The SmashBurger bun was very fresh and either lightly toasted or just had a little crisp on the edges. Sauce on the burger was great. Just the right amount to add flavor without overwhelming the burger. Great burger. Cooked just as I ordered. My guest loved her whitefish sandwich. The fries were golden crispy in the outside with soft, fluffy cooked potato on the inside. I couldn't get enough. They seemed to have a light batter on the fries. Lightly seasoned with salt and spice. Wow!
Portion sizes were very good overall. Just enough food from the appetizer, burger and fries to have enough to eat and no leftovers. Maybe I had one too many fries.
I didn't have room for dessert, but I'll have to come back. The sorbetto and cheesecake both sounded tempting.
Outstanding experience! Service was prompt. The manager and owners visited the table. Wonderful people! Definitely...
Read moreVisited the dungeon with a group. Nice relaxed ambience, amazing cocktails. The Spanish gin and tonic was a treat! The menu is small and the items I ordered were a fail for me; mango cheviche which turned out to be a vegan dish consisting of a martini glass of chopped mango, the word cheviche was inappropriate for anyone that has ever eaten cheviche. Sadly i missed the tiny V signifying it was vegan. I also ordered the saganaki which was grilled feta with an accompaniment of peaches but no bread or crostini to eat it on. My friend ordered the spicy udon noodles with chicken, which i tried, and those were fabulous. Other people in our party had the chicken wings and burgers and they were all very pleased. I guess I just made unlucky choices. Overall a nice experience i would just say pay very close attention to reading the menu in this dimly lit bar. Staff was friendly and checks were accurate for large group that paid as couples and were all spread out over a...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would! Made a reservation for 6:15, got there by 6. Got sat down by the host and waited 30 min. Before having to flag a random server down to be able to get a drink. The girl who brought us our water let us know she found out who the server was, and asked if we would like to put our drink order in. We placed an order for 2 cocktails & an app. And waited another 35 min still waiting on our server to come by or the girl who took our drink order, and not one person who walked by had even acknowledged us still waiting. The place was not busy, and people that had been sat after us had their mixed drinks and food out already. The vibe seemed off as soon as my fiancé and I came in. We were looking for a new place to try and just felt ignored to what felt to be like because we were the only Hispanics there. What was supposed to be a fun date night out turned out to be a bummer by...
