I love finding local shops and eateries to try out. I was running errands this morning and thought about wanting a coffee. I passed Wildroast on my way to and back so I decided to swing through and check it out. The service is lacking. There is a vague menu with not much telling you what options are available. With only me and a car behind me, I was handed the wrong coffee and before I could say anything, the guy was gone. Barely even acknowledged by him. The order taker seemed pleasant, though it wasn't really a warm feeling of welcome. Finally I received the correct coffee, which was pretty plain and lack luster for what I ordered, it didn't even look like a macchiato just a regular iced coffee and no real hint of the Caramel flavor. The Bacon, egg and cheese croissant however was the saving grace of this visit. The croissant was flaky, buttery, and simply delicious. The egg was ok, the bacon was smokey and crispy, and the cheese was just there. I suppose it was basic American cheese as I couldn't distinguish otherwise. I received not receipt to know what either item actually cost individually, but for 12 oz of meh coffee an the sandwich, it ran about $14. It would have cost less to go to Starbucks. Still the best local coffee will still be worth the drive to Kentwood for Schuil Coffee, better coffee, better atmosphere,...
Read moreFirst visit here tonight and I'm in love! Coffee was absolutely perfect and included beautiful latte art. Prices are very fair. The space is very relaxing and literally the ideal coffee shop. Biggest thing for me is friendly baristas that don't make you feel uncomfortable; the man helping me tonight was very down to earth and friendly and really gave a good lasting impression. They also have a rewards program.
Will definitely be back!
Edit: I'm so disappointed that this place was and is anti mask/covid safety. I've heard more than enough to know returning is not an option for me. It's a shame because I really liked the atmosphere and their menu and recommended this shop so much, but I morally can't support a coffee shop (that definitely could had survived with to go orders, I went once to support during this and saw they were breaking mandates and haven't returned since) that values dangerous and ignorant ideologies and business practices over the health and safety of their community, especially during a pandemic. I love supporting small, but not when they think this was and is a joke to the extent of total disregard of CDC and health department guidelines, and mandates that were put in place unfortunately for a very good...
Read moreOverall, Wildroast used to be a respected establishment. When they first opened, I tried most of their menu and chatted up their baristas. I would study here. However, management has completely bungled it up, specifically with COVID. The are virulently anti-mask, and are actively encouraging it as a spot to eat and drink openly flouting their disdain for mask policies.
This is dangerous for our community, and is deeply rooted in hostile politics, anti-science rhetoric, and a complete and total contempt for community health.
I get that this is difficult times for food service. I respect differing opinions on how it should be handled or what level of autonomy restaurants can have during this time. What I don't respect is willful and arrogant flouting of the orders because it appeals to a certain demographic and helps your short-term sales. It will kill this business long term. I will never patron this establishment again, and will never recommend it to anyone in the future.
It's...
