Pure Mex Tacos & Tequila Grandville — Restaurant in Grandville

I travel a lot for work, and Mexican is my favorite cuisine, so I eat at a lot of Mexican and TexMex restaurants. I don't bother to review a restaurant that doesn't impress me, and Pure Mex did. After one meal it's already my favorite Mexican place outside of Downtown GR.

The menu has a nice mix of TexMex favorites as well as street tacos and appetizers. Chips and salsa are free, something that isn't universal anymore. The quality of the ingredients really stood out; they are clearly trying to emphasize freshness. I ordered enchiladas and my wife a chimichanga, both of us noted the quality and amount of chicken. The red and sour cream sauces for the enchiladas were tasty. The queso was good. The scoop of guac on the side was generous and fresh. My daughter chose street tacos and the steak in the carne asada was also high quality. She liked her tinga de pollo taco as well. Overall, the food was excellent, you could see and taste the quality. The seasoning and flavor profiles were what I hoped for and expect. (Unfortunately, GR seems to have a fair number of Mexican restaurants that make bland food because they think that's what we locals want. Not me.) The prices were in line with any other Mexican place. Most entrees were $12-14. The overall value was great.

The atmosphere was also quite nice. It's a newly remodeled restaurant with clean tables and booths. The decoration style is based on Frida Kahlo, and is simultaneously bright, happy, and inviting. Clean colors and lines with a Mexican feel. I liked it. Our server was pleasant, prompt, and brought us refills faster than we we could drink them. She did a great job.

We'll definitely be back to try more options off their menu and a few drinks once they get their liquor...

My wife and I have been big fans of Pure Mex ever since they opened. The food is great, and we've recommended it to numerous other people, even taking people there and getting gift cards for others to try it. But last night was a bad experience. First, my wife had to call their number repeatedly before she could get someone on the line to take our order. Then, when I got there to pick it, up they only gave me half of what we ordered. It wasn't until I got to the car that I realized something was wrong. I went back in and asked for the other half of the order. They told me, "Oh, we're out of that, so that's why it wasn't on the order." In other words, they were just going to send me home with half our food (only my meal, not my wife's) without saying anything. Obviously my wife wanted something to eat, so I put in an order for something different (which I then obviously had to wait for). At no point did they apologize or offer anything to compensate. They seemed to think we would have been fine with just one entree instead of two. We've had this sort of situation at other restaurants in the past, and they always call back to let us know they're out of something, so we can order something different. Dined for the meal, will return because of Lexie! My coworker and I are in town for business. We recently dined at Pure Mex and had an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting, and the aroma of delicious food filled the air. But what truly made the evening exceptional was our waitress, Lexie. Her new title should be Head of Customer Service!!! Lexie was absolutely phenomenal! She greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and she offered excellent recommendations tailored to our tastes and even told us what was differnt on the weekend menu. Throughout the meal, Lexie was attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our glasses were always full and that we had everything we needed.What stood out the most was her genuine enthusiasm and passion for her work and exceptional customer service. She went above and beyond to make our dining experience special, and exciting. Lexie’s charm and professionalism turned a great meal into a memorable night out.
