I have been wanting to try this place for a while. I had some colleagues in town and after a long day of tours we decided this was the perfect opportunity.
Upon arriving the place was very busy. We took this as a good sign. We stood at the door for a while before anyone greeted us. A hostess had finally come up to us and said "I'll see if we have a table" . Her and another hostess had a back and forth for a while before one of them left to make a phone call. (A couple walks through the door and stand behind us. )
The other hostess came back over, highlighted something on her clipboard and walked away again, without saying anything to us or acknowledging us at all. (We are still standing at the door. )
Once the hostess finishes her phone call, and seats a reservation, she comes back and seats us and another couple that walked in behind us. And now we wait...
They got us menus, and a few minutes later, water's, and a few minutes later silverware but our server was barely seen.
After about .5 hour we ordered. I also asked for an appetizer as I figured that would give us something to munch on while we waited (which at this point seemed like a good plan)
Another 45 minutes go by. We still haven't received our appetizer. Tables around us that arrived around the same time we did are receiving their entrees.... and we still haven't received our appetizers... and one of us never received a drink that was ordered.
Our appetizer was 2 orders of crab cakes... and guess what.. the new table next to us got crab cakes too, and got them BEFORE US! (As they were finally being dropped off to us, we also ordered a baked brie for after dinner.)
At this point I felt like they were purposely messing with us. The server was sarcastic and snitty when saying "Thanks for your patience, or at least I think you're being patient."
Once our food did arrive, we were all pleased. The appetizers were good, although small.
The entrees were all fantastic and everyone enjoyed their meals.
We had ordered a baked brie when we received our appetizers, and had to wait quite a while after we had finished our entrees to receive the brie.
Everyone was happy with the food, but so very disappointed in the timing, and the lack of communication. A skilled server will keep you informed and happy even when things are taking a while... this was not the case. We were just sitting there... waiting.
We had seen some desserts that we wanted to try, but we didn't want to have to wait anymore.
They did comp the brie. Which was nice.. but again without any communication or apology.
At this point it had been over 2 hours of waiting. I'm so happy that I was with a patient group of people, because I could only imagine what would have happened if they were not.
Mind you, that at the bottom of their menu, in bold red writing it asks you to please limit your stay to 2 hours.
We didn't feel welcomed here, but the food was good.
I would love to experience some of the other menu options, because the food was truly tasty, but probably will not be returning due to the service...
Read moreIt was "Back To 50's" week in Grants Pass. My wife's sister and her husband were in town visiting from Prineville.
Long story short: We sat down at a table at the Twisted Cork around dusk. Place was packed. The owner waited our table. She looked at my brother in law, and said (in a very foul manner), "I'm not going to serve you!" Emidio was as sober as a judge, an owner himself of Mazzulli's Restaurant. He's not only a master Italian Chef; but a Master Bakery Chef as well.
I can attest Emidio was completely sober. In fact, none of us had indulged all day.
That's not the bad part. Despite our attesting to his complete sobriety, not only did she refuse to serve him any wine, (which is her privelege, regardless of how poor a judge she is/was... of anything or anybody really), but didn't even offer him a menu. In fact he was completely snubbed/ignored, despite behaving as the perfectly sober gentleman Emidio truly is.
We were aghast. Finished our overpriced 2oz serving of mediocre wine, paid the bill and left.
I did speak with a waitress who took over our table and expressed myself honestly (being sure not to impugn her for the owner's nastiness and incompetence.)
Never again.
My wife had taken me there once before. Despite it being trendishly correct, honestly, the foot was flat. In that regard, the portions were mercifully small.
The owner's behavior (to all of us), wasn't merely unfriendly, but defined snobbish. I don't know how long this woman has been having an affair with herself, but when she finds out who she really is; she's going to be...
Read moreMy mom and I were visiting Grant’s Pass and decided to stop in for dinner. We had eaten here previously (about a year ago) and had been very pleased. I ordered the Crab Papardelle ($26) and it arrived without any crab. Even the waitress tried to find some in the cream sauce and couldn’t. My mom ordered the New York Steak ($32), cooked medium/medium well. It arrived medium rare on the bottom, medium rare on the top and purple & cold in the middle. The waitress (Jove) was really nice and said that she thought we may have received the wrong steak. We sent both items back - to have crab added to the pasta and have her steak cooked longer. They were very busy at the time, so it took about 20 minutes to get the food back. The pasta was fine, it had crab in it. The steak was still rare in the middle. My mom tried to eat it, but not only was it way undercooked, but it was super tough and full of gristle. At this point, we had been there like 90 minutes and needed to get back on the road. We told Jove that we needed to go and that we would take the items home and attempt to “fix” them the next day. The restaurant gave us 20% off of the pasta ($5.20) and nothing off on the steak. We took everything home and tossed it out. Our final bill was $65.60. We tipped the waitress well on the full amount and left...
