Updated 3/19/23: In January I had a chance to chat with the manager, Amy, who explained, to my satisfaction, how the issue I shared was addressed. My wife and I had a great dinner afterwards, including sushi! We'll be back soon. Thanks, Amy!

This review is for a certain sushi chef and the sushi bar area only. We visited on the evening of 11/27 solely for sushi and sashimi and reserved a table for 4 at the sushi bar. Our group was seated immediately upon arrival and our server was friendly and efficient. We ordered roughly $200 worth of sushi and sashimi which appeared to be very fresh and was nicely prepared and presented. The portions were larger than we recalled and that was a pleasant surprise. As we were ending our dinner we saw and heard one of the sushi chefs clear his nose and his throat and then spit his saliva and phlegm ("hocked a loogie") into the sink behind the sushi counter that sits along the back wall. FOOD IS PREPARED IN THAT AREA and utensils/dishes are stored and presumably cleaned in and near that sink! We were absolutely disgusted and sickened at the sound and sight. The thought that our food (and all of the sushi and sashimi served to every other guest in the restaurant that night) was potentially contaminated with germs from the sushi chef's nose and throat mucus was and is revolting! One can only wonder about that sushi chef's bathroom hygiene when it comes to food preparation! Almost immediately we saw "Pande", a manager that has always been one of our favorite servers, and explained what we heard and witnessed and he was shocked. He advised that he would speak directly with the owner to address the situation. Hopefully the owner will see this review and respond here letting us know that that sushi chef's employment has been terminated. We fully intend to notify the Monongalia County Health Department if no response is received here within a few days explaining how the owner intends to deal with this situation and prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. Our family has been coming here once a month for a while now. We spend over $200 every time. Service has been declining and so has the food. Tonight I think was the last straw for us. We went to celebrate a birthday. We TOLD them we were there to celebrate a birthday and the persons actual date of birth but we had to celebrate 7 days early because it was the only time our whole family could get together. Server said ok. Next we needed a high chair, one didn't come. We had to get it ourselves. Couldn't get drink refills because server didn't come till it was bill time. Husbands food was burnt, he had the seafood delight with add ons. $50 dollars for his alone and he couldn't eat it. The chefs are always entertaining, not tonight. Our bill comes. Looks like they forgot about the birthday so I see a manager and our waitress. I told them about husbands disappointing dinner and how our kids were really let down about the forgotten birthday. The waitress said we can't get birthday discount cause birthday was actually in 7 days. I said I didn't care about the discount it was about all of us getting together to acknowledge birthday and the kids all excited for the singing and cupcake that comes out. She asked if I wanted a cupcake to go. I said no, I wanted customer service. They could have said no, we will not be acknowledging birthday cause it's 7 days away instead of the kids going thru whole dinner excited and let down and not even a heads up they weren't going to do it. I chose to come here for my birthday lunch with my coworkers, one of which was also celebrating her birthday. They offer free lunch for your birthday with a party of 6 or more, we had 10. They only offer 1 free lunch, or they gave us the option to each get half off, we chose that. I ordered a combination dinner portion which is $26.00 thinking it would be $13 plus tax and tip but apparently I was wrong. I've been here probably a dozen times and I would be fine if this was my last time. I was very disappointed, I did not get a dinner portion, in fact it appeared that the chef didn't bring out enough food so he just gave everyone very small portions. On top of that the way our waiter figured up my bill was very creative to give himself a bigger tip. He took the $26 meal and accidentally added something that someone else ordered but made the correction by hand after the tax and automatic 18% gratuity was added (parties larger than 8 get 18% gratuity automatically added) and then applied the birthday discount off just the pre taxed meal so deducted $13. So I paid tax and gratuity as if my meal was over $30 dollars. The lunch took longer than expected and it was during work hours so I didn't want to make a big deal out of it but I did the math later and I was charged over $4 too much which I know isn't a lot of money but with everything combined I just felt very...
