First visit. Gave my credit card at the register and received a wrist band. Good beer selection and nice indoor/outdoor setting areas. Wife and I grabbed our glasses and poured our beers. When I went to pay I was told 20% would be added to my bill for a tip. I asked who I was tipping since I did everything. I was told it was a new concept and the tip was required. He had to get a manager to remove the tip and this was a multi-screen process, all the while being told the friendly staff experience should get a tip.
Tips help servers make a living. No one I interacted with was a server, only the guy at the register and the manager. I assume they are being paid a decent wage and not sub-minimum wage server wages. I tip all the time, and have no issue with it. But it is for service. I had to get a glass, click on the tap to bring up my tab, and pour my beer. There was no one there telling me about the beers, asking about my preferences, suggesting items, or giving a sample pour to see if I liked it. This was fast food beer.
I was originally happy with the concept, but the process required to remove the required "tip" from my bill was very off-putting. Why not just add 20% to your beer prices? I asked the manager if he had been to any bar/restaurant that put a mandatory tip on his bill. He again said it was a new concept and if I didn't like it, I could choose to not come back....
Read moreI'll get the gripes out of the way first but they were minor and situational: brought my 3y and 7m kids with me and there were no high chairs for the little and no changing station in the men's room. Luckily the restrooms are single occupancy so I was able to use the women's to change a diaper. The place itself is cool, felt like of a Shake Shack served beers and the patio is to the west so you get afternoon shade. Decomposed granite around Cornhole is always a hit to entertain the 3yo. Food was better than most bars and some restaurants. Had the Cuban and although the mustard should've had a bit of a kick to be more authentic, it was good. Pepperoni pizza wasnt off kids menu but was a hit for the kids, not elevated enough for adult palate though. Beer selection was on the low to medium end, had too many basic beers but had some cool local ones and one rare one at an amazing price (probably as an Easter egg to those of us who are in the know... Or management just didn't know what they had and should've charged 50% more) A little far to be a regular here, but will definitely swing by...
Read moreOk - a restaurant that has Happy Hour on the website that's totally different when you show up & they won't honor their own website is a bate/switch, dishonest place! So I was with a group (club), and alrhough we tried to get them to hinor their own website - and they would not, blaming corporate- everyone pivoted to do the tap wall except for 2 of us who decided to leave our table, go to the bar & buy a mixed drink. Upon the bar tender discovering that we were ordering, closing our tab but were sitting with the others, said we'd be charged the same 20% tip as if we were served at the tables. The ONLY difference between us and the others is that he saw us in that section of the restaurant because we clearly left the herd to do something different like others in the restaurant. Then the friends that got the green tap bracelets said they got charged the 20% tip plus another fee?? Hoppin is NOT worth going too!! The food is not great, the atmosphere is not anything special, and they don't honor their own website!! I don't think we'll be going...
