First timers at Oishi on April 11th
Server Mackenzie was very polite, energetic, and walked us thru all the menu options. Atmosphere was nice - very clean and brand new. Lots of pre-bussers walking the floor and clearing plates.
We ordered the 44 Roll, California Roll, Calamari, and Tuna sashimi & Salmon sushi 44 Roll (pictured) was good, California roll was standard as with most places.
Beyond that, food was very disappointing… Calamari did not appear to be breaded in house ( highly suspect frozen breaded). it was thick dense breading and not very good flavor (in background of photo of 44 roll)
Ordered 7 pieces of sushi/sashimi - 5 tuna and 2 salmon. These were delivered last of the items we ordered. The tuna was not good, rubbery. Of the 7 pieces we ordered, 4 went back with the pre-busser to the trash can because we did not want to eat them. Prebusser even looked a little surprised when we told her she could take the plate and didn’t ask for a doggy bag.
When Mackenzie came by after food had all been bussed, she asked how our food was and we shared our disappointment with the sushi quality. She said she informed a manager, and that the owner was there on this night, but neither must have felt it was worthy of a visit to our table.
We paid our check (with standard 20% gratuity because Mackenzie was not at fault) but would not...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Oishii Sushi & Pan-Asian in Grapevine left me with mixed feelings, especially considering the significant bill of over $200.
Starting with the positives, the restaurant's ambiance was delightful. The décor was modern yet cozy, creating a pleasant atmosphere for a special evening out. The service was also attentive and friendly, with staff members knowledgeable about the menu and quick to assist with any requests.
Now, onto the food. The sushi selection was fresh and well-presented, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail. The Pan-Asian dishes, however, were a bit hit or miss. Some dishes, like the Pad Thai and Mongolian Beef, were flavorful and satisfying, while others fell short of expectations in terms of taste and portion size considering the price point.
One notable drawback was the pacing of the meal. There were noticeable delays between courses, which disrupted the flow of the dining experience, especially considering the restaurant's reputation and pricing.
In conclusion, while Oishii Sushi & Pan-Asian in Grapevine offers a pleasant ambiance, attentive service, and some delicious dishes, the overall experience did not quite justify the hefty bill of over $200. With a few improvements in consistency and pacing, this restaurant could elevate its dining experience to match...
Read moreGot a lot of sashimi which was a mistake. The Nigiri wasn’t something to ring home about either.
We got two rolls, the main street roll and DOA roll. My spice fanaticism made me gravitate towards DOA, however, having had it now, I definitely wouldn’t have it again. The roll lacked texture and depth.
Main Street on the other hand: fantastic. Would have it again.
If this was my first time having raw sushi, specifically sashimi/nigiri, It would undeniably be my last. I’d focus on getting other items here.
What I’d recommend: Beef tataki(Appetizer) Main Street roll
Here’s what we got: Sashimi: Flounder Mackerel Yellowtail - usually our favorite, but even this didn’t live up to our expectations.
Nigiri: Escolar Tuna Albacore
Rolls: DOA Main Street
Appetizers: Salmon Carpaccio Beef Tataki - pretty good
Our server was kind. Unfortunately, he didn’t know much about which sushi was which, so he had to get another server to help identify each piece of fish.
Ambience: The place was packed because Tuesday happens to be half priced wine day.
Price: our bill was around $155. Pretty steep, given we didn’t enjoy a majority of the...
