Read moreI grew up going to a fish & chips place down in Hayward CA called "London Fish & Chips" that had the BEST hand battered fish and chips. Sadly the Owner sold it to a relative when he retired and the relative quickly changed the fish, the recipe, the fries...everything. I was devastated and for years I've searched for a replacement that could rival my memories of that place.
Fast forward to about a year ago, I moved up here to Grass Valley, and decided to try "London's Best Fish & Chips". My mind has been blown. I dont know if they're related, or if it's just happy coincidence, but what I discovered wasnt just great fish & chips, but a trip down memory lane. It tastes exactly like what I remember from London Fish & Chips in my youth down in Hayward.
Everything tastes fresh. The fish has excellent crunch, the fries perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside every time. You can taste that they keep a clean place. Clean oil, fresh fish, seafood, veggies, house-made tartar & cocktail sauce, etc. and everything is cooked as ordered, meaning yeah, it takes the time it takes to cook but again, that's yet another indication of fresh. They make sure you have plenty of the above named sauces AND malt vinegar, (if you know, you KNOW!) enough for each portion and then some. (for being predominantly all deep fried again... they use fresh, clean oil and at the appropriate temp, so there's no rediculous oiliness!) Very reasonably priced.
