4 people seated at the table each with entrée . Final bill.. around $300 with desert.
The overall Experience was good. Somewhat private. Very nice older architecture.. The rooms were of a grand nature and pleasing but not so large that you felt like you are in a sea of people. Could use a little maintenance but was very pleasant and the staff did a great job taking care of us. Please read on for the details and a few caveats.
I got the 16 oz Prime Rib Medium well. I thought it was amazing! Perfectly cooked to what I expected. Sides were excellent. I was the lucky one. And yes I would go back for the prime rib as it is a long cooked meat and I have found it hard to under cook it.
The three other entrées were not as good but could have been with a little mor attention to the detail.
two of the Char grilled Prime Black Angus 8oz Filet were cooked almost rare instead of Medium well. Not what was expected.
The Chili Lime Salmon was also not cooked throughout. The salmon was actual gross in the center. We are very much a Sushi family but even I would not eat another bite of the Salmon. The outside of the Filet and Salmon looked great.. The outside tasted great.. but was just not ready to be served. If you don't know if it is ready.. please use a thermometer.
Now on to desert. To be fair we did not order these items from a menu. We just asked the waitress what was available. 3 Crème Brulé and one Banana Split was ordered. The Crème Brulé was good but it was not a $10 desert. I expected it to be overpriced but this was a $5.99 at best. Just not that special. The Banana split was a complete misrepresentation. This was my desert.. not even fresh banana’s .. just chips and only one scoop with two little scoops of whip cream on each side.. The Banana split tasted ok.. Should have been called a Sunday or a new name not to be confused with an existing staple in the desert world. If I wanted a gourmet Banana split.. I would have went in a different direction.
How to remedy this.. Be specific in expectations. going forwards I would make sure that the staff understand what you expect.. Such as the food cooked all the way through.. make sure they understand this upfront. If they have issues with this then you know not to order and move on to a different meal or a different restaurant.
You might ask why we did not mention this to the staff.. Well.. In this day and time you get one chance to get the food right and I will never take the chance of sending food back and having an unknown chef get offended. It’s not worth the risk. You get one shot to get the food right.. that’s the job. In this case 1 out of three meals were amazing. Lucky for me...
Read moreThe food was really good, our waitress was not. Our party was seated and we sat for 20 minutes not being acknowledged while the tables around us were waited upon/bussed. After 20 minutes, I approached the hostess station to request a server but a waiter was asked if I needed help and located our waitress. Our waitress arrived a few minutes later and took our food/drink orders. Our food arrived quickly and was very good but we still hadn’t received our drinks. They were delivered after another 10 minutes and were noticeably watered down due to the ice melting from sitting at the bar. My wife had ordered a glass of wine to go with her main course which remained absent throughout her meal. I excused myself and went to the bar to retrieve the wine myself because our waitress was busy chatting outside the kitchen before delivering the glass of wine. She claimed the glass had just been poured but it was sitting at the bar with a few other glasses sitting on a tray. Ultimately, the food was great but our waitress was extremely lacking and ruined...
Read moreSunday brunch is an "event" at Brumley's. The setting in The General Morgan Hotel is beautiful and nostalgic. The formal place settings and the crisp, starched napkins and table clothes add an air of elegance seldom seen in East Tennessee. We were seated promptly and welcomed by the hostess. Beverly, our waitress was quick to take our drink orders and brought fresh, hot biscuits and the best blueberry scones I've ever tasted. Our party of three settled on the Montie Christo sandwich, the blueberry, peach compote French Toast, shrimp and grits. The food was delivered hot and in a timely manner. And, it was delicious. The Montie Christo had an ample amount of ham and swiss cheese. And, while it could have been a tad crispier, it was superb. The French toast was perfect with fresh berries and peaches. And, the shrimp and grits were perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The meal for three (including drinks) was under $50. Our table waitress, Beverly, was one of the best I've seen. We will definitely be repeat guests...
