Panera Bread — Restaurant in Greenfield

Oh boy.. where to begin. I’m not a fan of leaving bad reviews. But in 15 years of eating at Panera, I’ve never had an experience that wasn’t completely consistent and very good. Until today.

We went for dinner at this Panera around 5 PM. I ordered a bagel and soup- thought it was odd that they had only three flavors of bagels left, but not a big deal. I ordered my bagel and soup from a cashier who will not be embarrassed with the use of her name, but let’s just say the lack of eye contact/listening wasn’t a sparkling example of customer service. Asked for two water cups, received one, headed to the table.

Food comes out. Portion sizes are not right. Again, have been to Panera many times, including recently, and maybe the chain is tightening their belts but the soup and my girlfriend’s Mac and cheese were maybe 2/3 of the size they normally are. We all know Panera had delicious Mac and cheese. This watery rendition was something else. My bagel was the wrong bagel- thanks, tuned-out cashier- and the replacement that was brought out, they didn’t bother to toast as I originally ordered. We ate our watery half portions and my cold bagel, which came with a cream cheese half the normal Panera size, staring at the receipt which promised a free pastry if the order was wrong. They were aware they made a mistake- so where was that?

If I could rate this location a zero I would. I went in and ordered food with my dad for us, my grandma, and his fiancé. When we got home we were missing a plain turkey sandwich and a cheddar soup. So we quickly went back and let them know what we were missing. We left at home 1 bowl of soup, 1 cup of soup and a grilled cheese so my grandma and dads fiancé could eat. When explaining that we left that stuff at home the manager said she needs to see everything in the order or she was not giving us what was missing. Which makes no sense. If we went home and back they would be closed by the time we got back. She said well I’m not going to just give you free food. We didn’t want free food we wanted the food that was missing. She denied it and said she personally made the food that we are missing and she said her employees checked everything twice so she knows everything was there. She made my father and I feel so fat. We are on the heavier side but we have no reason to want free food. We have the money for food. So they threatened to call the police on us. Well we went outside and called for them. When we went outside she quickly ran to the door and locked it. Cops arrived and we ended up getting the 2 items that were missing but seriously way to make something so simple turn into a big issue. Wanted to pre-order. Called 7, YES 7 times, went through the recorded message, as it would not let you push the # you needed to bypass. 7 times, it rang, then I was hung up on!

I finally got there, went in and asked to speak with a manager before ordering. I told the person who claimed to be the manager about what had happened, and he said, strange, we have just been letting the phone ring and not answering it at all! REALLY? I TOLD HIM That was UNACCEPTABLE. This is a place where you puck up take out orders, he litterely just shrugged his shoulders, and said they were short handed and walk away!

Ordered my food, what I always order, pick 2 with seira turkey, was told they did not make that.. I informed him that,, yes, they actually do or at least every other Panerai does. A girl came over and showed him it was on the off menue screen.. then,, she told me I could not have it with the pick 2. I could only order a 1/2 or full sandwich alacarte! Seriously, I order this every time I eat there. She had the person do the order but was not shy about her displeasure.

Finnaly.. order placed nothing offered for my inconvenience and waited another 12 minutes before it was ready.

I love Panera, however, I will think twice before visiting Greenfield's...
