We (my fiancée and I) have been patrons of this bar for almost 2 years. We have purchased shots of Jäger many times in the past, but we have not been drinking at all as of late and we still like to go out and dance. This bar has great DJs and we enjoy the music most times. We are a friendly and outgoing pair that has never caused any problems and we always engage other patrons and find friends and bring our positive energy to the place (we have often been the first people on the dance floor to get things going). Tonight we were minding our business on the bench in the back and the bouncer approached us and told us that we had to leave because "we always come here and never spend money". This was not a joke and we could not believe what we were being told. We HAVE spent money here and my lady immediately offered for us to buy drinks (even though we were trying to NOT drink) just to stay but the manager and bar tender had already informed the bouncer that we had to leave no question. This bar has ALWAYS been free to enter and they have NEVER informed us in any way that we had to buy drinks in order to stay. If an establishment wants to make patrons pay they MUST have a cover to enter because some people do NOT drink (whether they have in the past or not) and this is extremely prejudicial to non drinkers who still like to go out and dance. If we had been informed beforehand that we had to purchase alcohol before entering we would have not entered this establishment. We have been going to many bars for a long time and have never been kicked out so rudely for not buying anything WITHOUT WARNING!!! This place is EXTREMELY RUDE TO CUSTOMERS! The short skinny bar tender girl and the angry short bar back guy are AWFUL to customers. We do not know their names or we would use them so we use these descriptions instead (you will find them quite accurate).
We were extremely upset with our treatment by these two employees (bar tender and bar back/manager?) tonight and we hope you heed this warning and expect to be treated as nothing more than dollar bills to flow into their cash registers. You are not a human to this establishment...
Read moreA group of friends visited this place not that long ago and let me tell you the experience was AWFUL the girls went to the bathroom together to freshen up and this prick security guard comes banging on the door like crazy then busts in on the ladies and man handles one to the floor then after she's assaulted they try to sneak us out of the back quietly and persuade us not to call the police stating " why don't you guys just let this go you know Greensboro police are racist" so basically since were a couple of African American ladies we should let go being assulted because the racist police will most likely not side with us simply because of the color of our skin!! not letting go being thrown to the ground of course we walked around front and called the police the officer goes inside for a sec comes back and said since my friend had consumed alcohol that night she would NOT be able to press charges all the while he's smirking while telling us the SECURITY GUARD that assaulted her would be pressing charges instead WHAT sorry I know the grammar is a little off I'm highly upset about how we were treated here and if you are black or a person of color I def. Suggest not going they clearly have a problem with black people and if they put hands on you NOTHING will be done! Name of the prick security guard is Bryan Lamont Mitchell in case you were wondering and he has been reported for being violent on women on more than one occasion nothing is done about it ! Terrible place and they blocked me and my friends from posting reviews on any other site their on because they don't want...
Read moreWith so many downtown dining options and a more prominent pub (Natty Greene’s) right next door, Grey’s is easy to overlook. But if ever you should want a break from the bustle (and the inflated prices) of downtown dining, this low-key spot is worth considering if you aren’t in a hurry.
Grey’s is nothing fancy, but the décor – worn wood, old brick, and lots of TVs – suits its ambition. This is a classic bar/pub/tavern, no more and no less. Accordingly, the menu is somewhat limited, but what they do offer here, they prepare competently if unspectacularly. I opted for a fried chicken sandwich my first time out. Though the breading was very crisp, the meat thankfully remained moist. The sauce (orange ginger?) proved to be a touch too sweet, but there were plenty of other sauce options available. The coleslaw here is finely chopped and none too vinegary. Only the fries were a real standout: thick, hand-cut, nicely browned, and well-salted.
Servers seemed amicable enough, but the kitchen was decidedly slow-footed. Our group of five may have been the only patrons at one point, but you wouldn’t have known it from the time it took for our food to arrive. On the other hand, Grey’s pricing is favorable for a downtown location. Sandwiches and sides can be yours for south of $10.
With a convenient location, reasonable pricing, and good-enough food, Grey’s is a decent option for a casual bite to eat. There is room for improvement on several fronts, but Grey’s does spare you some of the headaches (crowding, expense, pretension, etc.) that occasionally mar...
