Since its opening, my son and I have frequented this establishment regularly. On this occasion, I invited a group of approximately seven friends and their mothers to join us, even transporting an additional child from school. Historically, our experiences have been enhanced by the young waitstaff, who demonstrate exemplary friendliness, patience, and attentiveness. Today, however, we encountered an older individual, whom I believe to be the manager.
During our visit, both my son and his friend ordered a small, and I ordered a mini for myself. However, it became apparent that my son received a noticeably smaller quantity than his friend, prompting him to inquire about the discrepancy. A younger waitress courteously rectified the situation by adding more, aligning with the consistently courteous service we have previously received.
It is pertinent to note that my son and I were the only African American individuals in our group, as the remaining children and parents were Caucasian. While the children were eating, they engaged in lighthearted play within the premises, which my son did not participate in as he was focused on his ice cream. However, one of the other mothers observed the manager surveilling the children, and she suggested it might be prudent for us to leave.
As we were preparing to depart, one of my son’s friends (Caucasian) began hitting a balloon, initiating playful interaction. My son, having just finished his ice cream, jumped up and hit the balloon next. At that point, the manager approached my son directly, reprimanding him without addressing the identical behavior exhibited by the other child or any of the other children (who were still playing inside of the establishment). Instead of addressing a child who, of course, was not in the establishment alone, the manager could have and should have requested to speak with myself or any of the accompanying parents to address any concerns. This approach would have been far more appropriate and respectful.
After we left, one of the other parents reached out, because her son expressed his own discomfort and perception of the situation. This shared observation further underscores our concern that my son was unfairly singled out, potentially due to his race.
This inconsistency in treatment was both noticeable and disconcerting, leading us to believe that my son was subjected to differential treatment based on the color of his skin. The incident left him feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, and it is with regret that we have decided not to return. Despite the convenience of this location and the enjoyment we previously experienced, today’s encounter has cast an irrevocable shadow over our perception of the...
Read moreI had such a great experience at Jeremiah’s Italian Ice! I wanted to try something fun and different, so I ordered an Italian ice with four different flavors. The team was incredibly kind and helpful—they didn’t just rush me through my decision. Instead, they took the time to explain which flavors paired well together and even offered free samples so I could try a few before committing. That level of patience and customer care really stood out to me.
Thanks to their guidance, I ended up with a colorful mix that was both refreshing and full of flavor. It’s rare to find a place where the service feels just as good as the product tastes, but Jeremiah’s nails both.
I truly appreciated how welcoming and upbeat the atmosphere was. The employees made me feel like a valued guest, not just another customer. Experiences like this remind me how much of a difference great service makes. I’ll definitely be back—and I’ll be bringing friends with...
Read moreFrom the time this place opened till last week when we went out as a family, we have enjoyed Jeremiah‘s Italian ice tremendously.
The manager Angela, is so kind. The workers are always very friendly. They really do give you all you want to sample, and there are so many delicious flavors. And they add new ones regularly- My kids enjoyed the freeze dried skittle mix-ins just introduced in March.
Edit: I have to take it from 5 to 4 star, not because of the staff and service but because the selection of flavors went way down, from 24 to 14. Among those lost were our favorites- sea salt caramel and coconut. I still recommend it, but I myself won’t go as much because those flavors were the reason I went.
Good for my wallet and it’s a GREAT cheat treat because it’s delicious and lower calorie. We don’t spend money to eat often, but this is one place we will spend and spend and spend! Five...
