I had high hopes for Pryme when I made a reservation to celebrate my birthday, but the entire experience was incredibly disappointing — from poor communication and subpar food to passive-aggressive management.
To be clear: I was running a little late and called ahead knowing they might not be able to hold my table. I simply asked if there were any other reservations available later that evening. Instead of a helpful answer, I was told they don’t take same-day reservations and then informed they had no record of mine at all — even though I had confirmation via Google Assistant. I offered to show proof when I arrived, but was told flat out that even if I had shown up on time, they wouldn’t have honored it because “Google reservations don’t work.” That alone is questionable.
Despite that, we waited patiently and were eventually seated. Thankfully, our server Bree was the one bright spot of the night — kind, attentive, and clearly doing her best despite the restaurant being severely understaffed.
I ordered the 8oz filet ($49) with sautéed mushrooms ($8), brussels sprouts, and the lobster mac & cheese. The brussels sprouts were great. But the “lobster” mac was a joke — just a tiny sliver of lobster on top of regular mac & cheese. My friend ordered the plain version, and we compared: they were the same dish minus that sliver. For a place that advertises this dish all over social media, that was false advertising at best.
But the biggest issue was the steak. I ordered it medium, expecting a warm pink center. What I received was clearly medium-well — barely pink, dry, and overcooked. No one checked on us until over 20 minutes later, so by the time I flagged down a random passing server, everyone at my table was halfway through their meals. They brought out a chef with a “doneness guide” card — which felt passive aggressive — and tried to claim it was cooked correctly, even blaming the lighting for why I couldn’t see the pink. I had already tasted it. It was dry and definitely not medium.
They offered to remake it, and I said yes — only if they could do it quickly, since my sides were getting cold and everyone else was eating. They assured me it would be prioritized. Instead, it took another 20–25 minutes. By the time my steak came out, everyone had already finished, boxed up their food, and I had cold sides. I also never got the sautéed mushrooms I originally ordered (and that went back with the first steak), yet I was still charged for them.
To top it off, they offered me a 20% discount on the steak. I had to speak to the owner directly just to get that adjusted, and even then, it felt like they were doing me a favor. I didn’t want free food — I just wanted the situation handled properly. It’s clear this team has no idea how to manage a customer service issue, especially when the customer is respectful and reasonable.
This was my birthday, and I left feeling completely dismissed, frustrated, and still hungry. If I could give zero stars, I would. Bree deserves 5 stars, but the owner, kitchen, and management? Absolute joke. Save your money — Greensboro has far better spots that know how to...
Read moreThis restaurant is a “PRYME” example of faking it until you make it. They have the same recycled staff from every black owned on restaurant across Greensboro. I’ve visited this restaurant twice and despite having a terrible experience the first time I decided to go against my better judgement and give them another chance. I deeply regret my decision and encourage everyone that truly enjoys fine dining to find an alternative. My first time in this establishment I spent well over $200 just for my waitress to tell me my payment did not process. I proceeded to pull my receipts and showed my actual bank account, still our waitress was adamant, they did not receive payment. I asked for a manager they then informed me their system “glitched”. The manager came to my table attempting to smooth things over and make excuses by exclaiming they were still in the soft opening stage. I was told that the system went offline. It was very embarrassing because the live band was wrapping up their set and other people dining could visibly see and hear what was happening at our table. The only person that apologized was the manager the waitress never even came back to our table or apologized. I waited a complete month before giving them another go. I was hopeful they would be out of their soft opening stage but sadly I was disappointed again. I ordered a strawberry walnut salad which arrived w/o any dressing at all. I waited for my waitress to bring dressing that should have came on my salad. After taking just a few bites I bit into a sharp, hard plastic object. I immediately flagged down the nearest staff member and showed them what was in my salad. Again, she went to get the manager (a completely different manager from the last encounter) who was very unprofessional telling me he wanted to “strangle his kitchen staff”. The manager didn’t offer any solutions and I had to ask if my salad could be re-made. He agreed to re make my salad. I had no choice but to wait for it be prepared again . I was inconvenienced again because I was forced to wait for my salad all over again. While I waited for the new salad, the manager thanked me for my patience and assured me it was being freshly made. However, I never received a new salad and was sent home with the same one that had the plastic shard in it. 0/10 I do not recommend this restaurant. They lack professionalism, decorum, and basic resolution skills. They simply do not and will never meet fine dining criteria but if you just want a aesthetically pleasing place to dine subpar food and terrible service...
Read moreMy first time experiencing Pryme and I'm disappointed to say it did not meet my expectations for dinner. The ambiance and decor is beautiful when you walk through the door. And I appreciate the live music.
I came for a Birthday dinner with a reservation already made. Most of our party arrived within the 15 minute grace period and we asked to be seated however they said everyone had to be in attendance. This was not communicated to us when the reservation was made a week prior, and there is no website that any of the guests can go and view these regulations/requirements. When the final guest arrived, they THEN told us the reservation was canceled and there was a 10 minute wait. While waiting for the final guest, multiple conversations were had with hostesses, but they were paciifying the situation and not escalating it as needed or being very accommodating, given the circumstances ofthe weather being bad for that particular evening and the fact the whole street was blocked off, making parking difficult for anyone.
I arrived with a cake for the birthday lady. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. When we finally arrived at the table, the server asks who will be covering the cake fee of $18. AGAIN. I sat downstairs, for 30+ minutes and no one addressed me, there is no website to access this information. And the server gave great service, but that was distasteful.
Overall. We had a great experience after being seated. Except the small fact that we placed our food order to find out they were out of Red Snapper and two of our guests had to change their order after it was placed. Maybe if we were seated earlier it would have made a difference. I ordered the Salmon and it was cooked well over a rice pilaf. Very enjoyable. And no complaints on the food or drinks from any of the other guests.
I'm rating this experience low, because the tone was set when we walked through the door. This was a special occasion and I feel like customer service should have took precedent over 1 guest running behind, especially given the circumstances. This review is for transparency. I don't know if I would return on my own accord, but would go if invited. Just...
