Why I waited 12 years since first hearing of OJ's, I'll never know. Very positive first experience at this restaurant. If I could give 6 stars to their service, I would. From the time I brought in my elderly mother who struggled with her walker, to the time we left, we were treated like honored guest. The staff aided my mother to the table, then realized the table had a wonky leg, warned us, and helped us shift to another table. They even went so far as to hold the seat for Mom and tuck her in. They spotted that I'd forgotten to ask for tartar sauce for my fish, and offered to bring some. They know their stuff when it comes to greens, and asked if I'd like any of a handful of vinegar types they had for topping those greens. We were asked often if they could provide anything, and they kept the beverages topped off. When Mom rose to go, I noticed behind her one of the staff loaded down with trays and plates. I tried to wave Mom off so the worker wouldn't have to wait for Mom's slow movement, but she kindly offered to let Mom go first. We were not the only ones I noticed being treated well. Another with a walker entered the restaurant, and I observed the staff treating her with great care as well, then holding the doors when she was leaving. One other note: the cafeteria-style plastic trays were squeaky clean. You could have eaten the meal off of them. I'm used elsewhere to seeing "ah, it will pass inspection". I've eaten at restaurants all over the Upstate, and frequently, and I cannot recall the last time service was this good elsewhere.
The food was good, and filling. As I stepped out of the van, I took a sniff and told Mom that "it definitely smells like good Southern food". We had a dear, late family friend who was a skilled Southern cook, and the experience reminded me of her cooking.
The atmosphere is what you'd expect: a focus on the product, more than the trappings. There are a few pictures. A TV was playing G.E.T. network, and I was entertained watching some of my family's favorites old TV shows.
Our lunch was late, so the diners were few. I've no idea how crowded it becomes at the main lunch hours, but I'm aware that the staff at the hospital nearby likes to eat at this establishment, so it might...
Read moreWhat happened to the customer is always right??????? My coworker and I decided to stop .and have lunch at this place. I ordered fish, macaroni and greens. Wil i'm a very STRANGE person i eat ketchup on my macaroni. So i grabbed what i thought was ketchup, because it was not labeled HOT SAUCE and pulled it all inst my MACARONI. After realizing what it was the server was very kind and replaced it and brought me ketchup. I put the ketchup on my MACARONI and when i took the first bite i quickly spit it out, the ketchup bottle in a plastic squeeze bottle WAS SPOILED. The server informed me that they had just filed the bottles THAT morning. I was like well i don't know but this bottle was SPOILED. So the manager on duty JORDAN, CAME OVER AND DIDN'T MAKE THE ISSUE RIGHT AT ALL, HE WANTED TO ARGUE WITH MR OVER SOME KETCHUP. HE CLAIMED HE TASTED THE KETCHUP BUT ALL U DARE WAS THST HE WAS ON THE PHONE TALKING. MIND YOU I PAID FOR MY FOOD SO I WANT TRYING TO GEY OUT OF PAYING. WHEN I ASKED WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO ABOUT IT HE SAID NOTHING CAUSE THERE WAD NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FOOD OR THE KETCHUP..... I'M NOT HAPPY AT ALL. MY VOICE MAYBE SMALL BUT THIS PLACE ON PENDLETON STREET HAS CHANGED IN THE WORST WAY. THIS YOUNG MAN HAS NO PEOPLE SKILLS AT ALL. HE ACT LIKE I WAS TRYING TO GET OVER, BUT HOW WAS THAT WHEN I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR MY FOOD....... WILL NOT BE COMING BACK TO FOOD ONE.... THE ONE IN EASLEY IS THE BOMB, MORE PLEASANT AND FRIENDLY....... AS FOR MANAGEMENT GOES ON PENDLETON STREET HE NEEDS TO GO TO TRAINING ON HOW TO TALK TO PEOPLE .AND NOT AT PEOPLE.... HE TRIED TO MAKE ME LOOK STUPID IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMERS THAT were PREDOMINANTLY WHITE...... AGAIN HE NEVER ASKED WHAT HE COULD DO. BUT THE SERVER SAW HOW UPSET I was and bought me a MACARONI..... SAD BUT SOME OF THE CREW WAS EVEN TALKING ABOUT ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS REPLACE IT AND KEEP IT...
Read moreI came on a Thursday morning to get my breakfast. When I went to the cashier to pay for my meal she rudely said "you know you're only suppose to get 2 meats and not 3"! I said I did not know, nor did I ask him for the extra meat. She said "if you want it it would be extra, I asked how much and she said "$1.xx, do you want it??" I told her no. She then turns to the woman helping bag the food to take my plate back and have them take 1 wing off. The woman paused in disbelief because of not only how I was spoken to, but also the fact she was sending my plate back. She then yelled over to the servers "You know your only suppose to give 2 wings and not 3!!" You just gave someone 3 instead of 2!" I could Not believe she was doing this. Not only was she making a spectacle of or the situation, she yelled so that everyone behind me in line and within hearing distance knew what was going on. If she felt the need to let me know for next time would have been one thing, but to have everyone behind me in line wait while she sent my plate back to have 1 wing taken off, and then repremand the servers in front of the customers is another. Without arguing, I quietly kept my composer and paid for my meal. I asked to speak to the manager, but after she spoke to him he told her he was too busy to speak to me. How can you be a manager, and refuse to manage. I could have understand if he looked around the corner, and said it may be a few minutes are you able to wait, or tried to send someone in his place. But he did not even take the time to speak to me, or acknowledge my presence. If I took the time to drive to your restaurant, stand in line, order/ pay for my food, stay composed during a disrespectful experience, the manager could have at least acknowledged me. In any business your employees are only as good/strong as the management they are under. Today was a bad...
