Always ready to try a new breakfast spot, I looked forward to going to the Goat to give it a try with our friend/neighbors. We arrived at about 10:30 and got an outdoor table immediately, which we actually prefer. I really like this end of Main St, and it was a perfect day for it. The first person that took us to the table only provided two menus. He had to come back with two more as there were clearly four of us. Not a big deal, but not a good sign either. He then came back to ask us if we wanted drinks with a completely blank expression and disinterested attitude. When I pointed out we didn’t get a drink menu, he rolled his eyes and went back in again to retrieve one. One. We’ve now been here almost 15 minutes and don’t even have a drink order in yet. Not off to a good start. A different server came to the table and asked us if we would like to start with some drinks. My friend ordered the Apple Cider Donut Old Fashioned (which was a bold move in my opinion), I ordered an Italian grapefruit hard seltzer, and my friend’s wife asked if they had red wine, preferably Cab. He said he would go check, and then went back inside. We got talking and were enjoying the morning, all of us dragging a bit after the previous night’s live music and dancing. People came and went for takeout coffee, walked by with dogs, euphoria was in its final day and was starting to wind up … lots to distract us from the wait. After about 20 more minutes had passed, yet another server came out and asked if we were ready to order food. We put in our food orders, and I asked if the $2 a la carte eggs order was one or two. She replied it was her second day and that she would check. She came across as really not wanting to be there, and had slightly more charm and personality than the napkin dispenser on the table. Another 10 minutes went by and I went inside to check on our drinks, which had now been ordered over a half hour prior. A friendly adult woman behind the bar asked if I needed help and I explained we had put in our drink order a long time before and I wanted to make sure it hadn’t been forgotten. She apologized profusely and said she would make them immediately and bring them right out. After another 5 minutes she brought them out and I have to say, they were both delicious. The food arrived in another 10 minutes, and—though it took a long time to get to us—thankfully, it was all delicious and well prepared. My eggs (there were 2 BTW) were over-medium … luckily how I like them, since I wasn’t asked when I ordered. The bacon was crisp, and sausage patties were well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. My wife had the Morning Glory breakfast burger with tots and she loved it … thankfully the burger wasn’t over-cooked. Chicken and biscuits for my friend’s wife was gobbled down with a grin, and his Goat Country Special was superb, a chicken-fried steak on biscuit, smothered in gravy. We ordered another round when the food came out, and asked about the wine. The lady who made the drinks turned out to be an owner and she brought a glass of red wine and again apologized for the delays, explaining that her serving help was both new and green. Miss Personality that took our food order also later gave me the wrong change, shorting the restaurant a couple bucks, so I would go as far as to say that perhaps she needs to look for another line of work. Overall, I loved the food, drinks, and the al fresco dining at the Morning Goat on a spectacular late-summer day … but they seriously need to reboot their wait staff if they don’t want to see 1-star reviews here and on other platforms. Other than not screwing up the orders, the servers were abysmal. Best of luck Goat, we’ll try you again in a few months to see how/if things are...
Read moreI will preface with everyone has a bad day and also that my super power is patience, but today I as not the day. It was a lovely morning and my family and I sat outside. My wife had already had already warned me that the young man helping us was not very communicative. Still, he came out and took our order after sitting for about ten minutes. He was not in the happiest of moods, but it was a beautiful morning and i didn’t care. We ordered and then waited. He brought us water and then we did not see him again. After 15 more minutes, I went in and asked him for our coffee. He barely acknowledged me, but nodded. Another 10-12 minutes passed and I went inside again and someone else handed me two cups of coffee. We sat and chatted for about twenty minutes and he never came back out to check us, but arrived with two plates of food, we ordered three, and one of them was not ours. He took it away without a word and after another 15 minutes I went inside to get more coffee because he never returned. In fact, he avoided me completely. I was being pleasant and when someone else saw me, they actually apologized for our order getting messed up and I just asked for more coffee. We never got our order after the longest, unattended stay at a restaurant I can remember. I will say the one plate that he left was delicious and it was obvious that the youth did not want to be there, but someone should have intervened. My wife eventually went inside to say we were just going to go because it should not have taken an additional half an hour to fix a missed plate and no one was helping us at all. I give them a two star rating because they were very apologetic then and did comp our coffee and one plate. Instead, we walked down to another establishment and were greeted with a smile and were in and out in less than 45 minutes. As I said, everyone is due a bad day, but to be left in the wind for well over an hour after ordering is just not good service. I wish them well and hate to be the one to bring their Google review down, but I think a conversation needs to happen about...
Read moreDropped in on a whim. Menu was eclectic and interesting. Had the Country Goat. The country fried steak was cooked perfectly. The biscuit was on the thin side and would not have be edible with out the gravy, as it was pretty dry. Home fries were excellently seasoned. Had a side of cheese grits and they were cold and not as good as you want them to be. Other food at the table included Chicken and Waffles. Basically this chicken fingers and a couple of rectangular waffles. Plating one differently would go a long way. Didn't have any beverages today, but the drink menu looked good. There is no "standard " breakfast plate (eg. 2 egg, bacon, grits/potato, toast), which for for me is a miss. I think you could build it off of sides, but the overall lack of dishes with egg as a component on the menu was odd for a breakfast restaurant. Certainly will come back, as there's a Salmon Bagel Breakfast sandwhich...
