Leaving dinner now, extremely disappointed in the service. This is our weekend Mexican restaurant that we would frequent every single weekend. Very unprofessional on management and our waitresses side. Our food came out cold and one as a wrong order. We ordered Zacatecas Fajitas, leave out the chicken do extra steak. They came out with chicken we politely told the waitress, annoyed she took the plate back “fixed it” the plate brought back was the same plate / same amount of food with the chicken picked out as you could still see bits of chicken, no steak was added on. We called the waitress back appalled at how empty the plate was, she explained that that’s just how the kitchen sent it out. We asked for a manager again POLITELY bc we are aware that it is not her fault and a manager was more likely to fix the issue. The woman did a big sigh and stomped away. The manager eventually came fixed it, we moved on. The waitress did not come back a single time even though we were smack in the middle of two tables that she kept checking on. Our empty drinks sat at the edge of our table for 15 minutes until the manager eventually came back to check on us again, by this time it was the end of our meal so we expressed our frustration that the waitress had not come back a single time even to bring the check or refill drinks. He apologized and the waitress without a word dropped off to go containers…without the check. We waited for the check and had my credit card on the table in front of me waiting for the check. Waitress without a word came and tried to pick up the credit card from the table without a word and without bringing the check…idk about everyone else but I like looking over the check before paying. I asked her POLITELY to bring the check… she did…and stood over me while I looked…brought back the signature copy and in an angry seething voice said “god bless you really god will hopefully bless you” I had zero qualms with the waitress as it wasn’t her fault. I shared my frustration with the manager who the apologized. I feel completely embarrassed and disheartened at the way we were treated tonight. As someone in the restaurant industry I understand dinner rushes and can honestly say I’ve never walked out without tipping.. tonight was a first. I wish the manager would’ve handled it better but unfortunately was not met with any empathy. Getting your meal wrong or a stranger being cold towards you isn’t otherworldly and not something but getting disrespected in a place where I’m giving my money to is something that has me in shock.

An Unbelievable Amount of Food and Drink for the Price—But That’s About It Papas and Beer is a Greenville institution with a loyal following, but unfortunately, I didn’t leave as impressed as most. While I’m willing to give it another shot, my first visit fell short in terms of flavor, chips, and salsa compared to other local options. Let’s start with the positives: the portion sizes are absolutely massive. Just as large as the menu with almost 12 pages to choose from. If you’re hungry, craving a margarita, and don’t want to break the bank, this place has you covered. My margarita, while pricey, was enormous—I could’ve done laps in it. The amount of food you get is equally staggering. For a party of two, you’ll want to sit at a four-person table to have enough space. This alone makes me consider coming back for a second try. However, flavor was where things went downhill. The salsa bar, despite its variety, was underwhelming, and the chips tasted stale and lacked salt. My fajitas were also disappointingly bland—no noticeable seasoning or salt. The jalapeños added a fun twist, but they seemed to be carrying all the weight in terms of flavor. Maybe that’s what they were going for. My wife’s chicken dish was just okay, accompanied by plain beans and a sparse serving of lettuce. It just needed something more and maybe some tomatoes on the side like every other Mexican restaurant in the area. I came in wanting to love this place after hearing so many glowing recommendations, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. That said, I’ll likely try it again or visit another location to see if I missed something. For now, though, I’d recommend checking out other spots I’ve reviewed for better flavor and a more balanced experience.

Have been here a few times and it's consistently really good. We live in another state though so we only are able to eat here when we visit family. The place is really cool - lots of really cool decorations to look it. It's fun. Not many restaurants are fun to be in anymore, but this one is. The food is always really good. The beans are great, nice and chunky with good flavor. They have a salsa bar which is super cool - lots of flavors. Honestly, this salsa bar is one of my favorite things about this place. The overall flavor of the food is extremely good and they have tons of options; many of which are unique in that you don't see in a typical Mexican restaurant. Lastly, the service is always really good. This place is busy, but the servers have consistently been very attentive and personable. Some of the best service you'll get in a restaurant, they do a great job. Overall it's always a really good experience in a fun environment with excellent service and really tasty food. You gotta try it!

I've been going to Papas for a while now and initially the experience was flawless; I couldn't comment critically nor constructively on any aspect of my dining because everything was wonderful.

The last two times, there have been hiccups though, and I noticed a change in the menu items that I can only attribute to trying to lower costs for them (though the prices remain the same).

I typically order the Mexico City Tacos...three tacos, one with steak, one with chicken, and one with carnitas...and those tacos used to come with lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese, sour-cream, guacamole (which I always decline because I'm allergic), and a choice of frijoles de ollo or a very generous portion of Mexican rice with refried-beans and cheese on top. I think salad was another side option.

This last time, the tacos came with only a tiny serving of pico on top, and nothing else. No lettuce, no sour-cream, no cheese. And I was brought a tiny bowl of frijoles. I asked the server if the dish no longer came with rice and refried-beans, etc and she stared at me blankly. Finally she said, "You have to ask" (she never asked me, which was usual when I order; whoever served asked what I wanted on the side). She attempted to take my plate, then said she'd ask the kitchen if I was allowed to have some rice. I went to the salsa-bar and came back to a tiny bowl containing about two tablespoons of rice. A far cry from the half-a-plate the dish used to come with. It was plain rice, unseasoned, and there was no sign of the refried-beans or cheese.

Concerned that I'd be charged separately for everything I brought to her attention, I didn't point out the lack of lettuce, etc. nor did I attempt to remind her that I'd asked for no ice in my drink and yet she'd given me mostly ice.

Also of note: the portions are usually very generous...I always have to ask for a take-out carton and have enough food for one or two satisfying meals...but this time, there was so little on the plate that I managed to finish everything, and was still a little hungry.

Oh well. Better to be a little hungry than over-stuffed!

Still, the change in quality/quantity without a lowering of price is concerning.

The time previous was also bumpy, with the server bringing my mother the wrong dish entirely and then telling me and my husband that it's what we'd ordered; she ordered steak fajitas, but she got chicken salad. He also, or the kitchen, forgot the side-dish that came with my order and had to be asked three times to check on it. The manager even came out to check on our table because so many details were overlooked. When my mother's food was finally brought, it was only steak and mostly-raw onions, with none of the other veggies usually included.

Our drinks were also wrong, and another dish my husband ordered never came. I chalk that night up to a stressed server who failed to write down a single thing we said; he didn't even pull out a note-book.

We will still be attending this restaurant, and the food we are served is excellent, but we'll be keeping a closer eye on what's brought...

What a disappointment. I've eaten here 3 times. The first 2 times were very good. My third visit was for my anniversary on Nov 11 and it was TERRIBLE!

We ordered queso. When it came out it was lumpy and not fully melted so we asked them to reheat it. By the time it came it our meal was also out so we didn't need it anymore and hardly ate any of it.

Our food came out without utensils or the tortillas for my wife's fajitas. We requested utensils 3 times and still waited over 10 minutes. Since it was my anniversary I did not want to make a big deal but I finally asked to see the manager. Anna came by the table while we were still waiting for our utensils. I explained to her the issues. She did not seem very concerned and asked what I wanted. I said that first I would like utensils and tortillas and that I thought an adjustment was appropriate. She seemed annoyed and walked away. We had plans to see a movie so when the utensils and the rest of our meal came we ate it (even though it was no longer hot).

When the bill came the manager only adjusted $5.98 off the bill which covered the cost of the questo, which we didn't eat, plus $2.00. I was sure this was a mistake based on how bad our experience was but being our anniversary and running to a movie, I decided I'd call the next day.

When I called I spoke with a manager (who I think was the same manager who made the adjustment). I reviewed the situation. She said she would look into and and get back to me. She called me back and said that an appropriate adjustment had been made. I said I didn't think that was appropriate and asked to speak with the owner. She said she would give him the message. I never received a call back.

After several days I called back and was told the owner was out for two weeks. I waited two weeks then called back. I got to another person who said he was the general manager, Daniel. He was very nice and listened to my story. I told him that despite what I'd been through I would be willing to give the restaurant another try if he would comp me a meal. He said he would check and get back to me. He called back and said that an appropriate adjustment had been made and he would not do anymore. I asked to speak with the owner. He said that the best way to contact them was through their website which I did. It has been a month since I reached out to the owner on the website and still have not heard back. I expect I will not.

Papas and Beer turned what was supposed to be a special evening for me and my wife into bad memory. What is worse is that even the ownership doesn't seem to care. Despite liking the food I will not...
