Went here on a Wednesday night @7pm and they were pretty busy for a week day! Found this place and was excited because the food looked delicious! I love how this was a true sushi place and the "chefs" were Japanese.
Seaweed Salad ($5); super small but was so fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Probably the best part of the meal.
I got the Chirashi ($22) which comes with 15pcs of sashimi and rice. Most of the cuts were extremely thin and inconsistent - with the exemption of yellow tail that was decently cut. They also have 2 pieces of imitation crab, 1 shrimp that is apparently considered "sashimi," in other words, filler. I asked the server to clarify when taking the order and it seemed like she didn't know or understand. The fish seemed fresh for the price but not drop dead melt in your mouth.
Also got the Sushi roll combo ($19) that comes with 5 pcs of nigiri and california roll. This was also decent. Could careless about imitation crab nigiri. I guess you get what you pay for.
Located in a plaza with plenty parking and a good find. Would probably come back for happy hour but wasn't really impressed with the inconsistency cut of fish. The meal would have tasted better if the cuts of fish were about the same as the nigiri instead of it being whisper...
Read moreWow! Love it! I always judge a good sushi place by the mackeral. To do mackeral right it should slightly firm (not overly firm) with a gentle cured flavor. The sushi chef nailed it!
We had an excellent flavorful Tokyo roll, the angry edamame carried a nice lingering heat, and the Hawaiin Roll was the first time I can remember enjoying a cucumber wrapped roll! It was delicious. Usually i hate these non-sushi roll rice rolls and i ordered it because this place was nailing everything for me so i had to go for it.
the chef we had (we sat at the bar) is authentic when it comes to sushi culture and patrons sitting at the bar. He seemed to like a light amount of banter, I complimented his ezcellent work, he was very humble but appreciative, and we got to know each other. his name is Miga (sp?l btw, if you like a sushi place - sit at the bar! It's crazy more people don't do that. Love this place.
I've eaten sushi all over the united states for 20 years, from New York and new Jersey to Florida to California and I finally have a sushi...
Read moreWe come into town all the time and stay at the Hyatt down the road from Asa so we decided to treat ourselves to a nice large lunch ($$$) for takeout.
Saw we were missing a few items from our special (soups and salad) and immediately were met with defensiveness and arguing from FOH staff about the order. Sushi chef on duty seemed like he was ready to clock out and not enjoying being there as he was kinda mean-mugging with his arms crossed (maybe I can see why with management being so harsh lol). Rolls and nigiri were unfortunately rolled really loosely so they fell apart when eating and quality of fish with the nigiri seemed not-so-fresh - disappointing for the price. I am also kinda offended that the dragon roll wasn't an official dragon roll with fried shrimp but instead was a cucumber and kani salad mix with very little unagi and avocado on top lol ughhh they massacred my favorite roll. Very pricey for mid-tier sushi and rough, combative staff/MGMT. Unfortunately will not order from here again as there are better spots in the...
