After dining at Green Ginger twice, I decided to go ahead and post a review for several reasons. Dining between 12 and 1pm on both occasions, there was no more than one other customer in the restaurant for the entire day of both of my visits. Ordered pork belly Ramen, and shrimp and vegetable tempura on my first visit. The shrimp & vegetable tempura was quite good, but seemed a bit pricey at eight dollars for what you receive. The Ramen on the other hand was very bland, and there seem to be Romain lettuce in the soup for some reason, and the egg was also very overcooked for a Ramen. The total for these two items in a beverage was over $30. Service was quick and efficient but lacked any personality. My second visit I tried to of there sushi rolls, a softshell crab roll and a raw fish and cream cheese roll. Both were reasonable, but the taste of the soft shell crab roll left me worried as to it freshness. As an entrée I ordered the udon noodle combination. The noodles seem to be quite soft and pasty, in the meats, shrimp beef and chicken, or quite hard and overcooked. The total for this meal including drink was nearly $40. I thought this price to be higher than was published on their menu, so I took a picture of the receipt. Upon further investigation the menu posted online and the menu available in the restaurant only through a QR code are different, The udon noodles entrée cost four dollars more than the menu you find on Google. I however do not blame The restaurant for that, as I know how difficult it can be to get Google to update information they publish. My overall interpretation of this restaurant is that its food is fairly good, one of the best Japanese/Asian restaurants in Greenwood, But too expensive for lunch. I will more than likely try Green Ginger again, but will Verify menu pricing before ordering, and ask for suggestions from...
Read moreToday was our first time ordering from GG, we normally order from Yokohama. We ordered scallion pancakes, chicken teryaki, and sushi. The scallion pancakes were the highlight, they were very good and I would recommend them. My wife thought the chicken teryaki was fine, nothing too noteworthy, positive or negative. The sushi is where things fell apart...
We ordered 4 regular rolls (I like to test the waters with traditional sushi rolls before ordering any special rolls) which were neatly stuffed inside a single tray which isn't a big issue other than it was hard to pull the rolls out without them falling apart, but that's pretty normal for sushi. However, there was no room for wasabi or ginger, and no side containers of it included in either bag. I'm not sure how a place called Green Ginger doesn't include ginger with their sushi?? On top of that, I have a food allergy to Avocado (yes, weird allergy and particularly unfortunate when you like sushi as much as I do) and ordered shrimp tempura with cucumber to ensure there was no avocado in it. I'm sure you can guess where this is going, there was avocado in the shrimp tempura so that roll had to be thrown out. I attempted to perform surgery on the roll but the avocado was so mushy there was no way to get it out without risking an allergic reaction.
The sushi itself was OK, pieces are on the smaller size (which is perfectly fine to me) but pretty average in taste. It also came with miso soup, but nothing special there either.
TLDR; Overall, for the price of the rolls, I was left dissatisfied with both the attention to detail of the order and the food itself. It's possible I may go back for an order of scallion pancakes after a bender but otherwise, I'll be sticking to the sushi OG...
Read moreMy husband and I have longed for a restaurant serving authentic tasting Japanese food in our area. FINALLY we have that and it’s just down the street!! We have been to Green Ginger 4 times now. Three times eating in, one take out. I can’t say enough about their food. It is DELICIOUS! I have fallen in love with a odd combination sushi called the Sweet Angel. At $12 it sounds expensive but it seriously can fill you up. Inside the roll is tempura shrimp, crab stick, cucumber and asparagus ( I think that’s all...) and on the outside sautéed banana drizzled with a mango sauce. It’s a flavor combination like never before!!!! As for their authentic Japanese dishes, their tempura ranks right up there with my mother-in-laws(maybe better.... shhhh, don’t tell her ). The batter is light, crispy, and NOT greasy. Their oil is fresh so there isn’t that old grease flavor like at most restaurants. Matter-of-fact, I wouldn’t order it in restaurants because it’s usually a huge disappointment. At Green Ginger, there is finally a place to have tempura ‘like mom makes.’ Their ramen is also delicious as is their miso soup and salad. Presentation, which is very big is Japan is also beautiful at Green Ginger. The service is amazing. They really make sure you have a wonderful experience. It’s clean and comfortable. I can’t recommend them enough. Please try them out!! I definitely want this restaurant to stay around for...
