Visited today for my nieces birthday dinner, myself, teenage son, and niece and nephew. We were seated quickly, and got drink orders in quickly. After that is was downhill, the 2 children order from the children’s menu 2 hibachi steaks. I asked to have shrimp added to each of their meals and was informed the meal comes with 2 shrimp each, I replied that would be fine no extra shrimp needed. I ordered the filet mignon with fried rice My Son as well when the server reached our table, he asked us how we would like our steaks cooked. I said medium well for all four of us. After The rice was served. We noticed the rice was extra crispy. Was not happy with it, but ate it anyway then when the shrimp was being served, everybody at the table got a shrimp appetizer. My niece and my nephew did not. I asked they said that the shrimp appetizer comes with their meal the cook informed me it does not. I asked the waiter why would it not come with shrimp when you explain to me that it comes with shrimp and he said he misinformed me and could add some shrimp to be cooked in the kitchen I replied with that would be fine. When our steaks were served, every steak was cooked, medium rare I let the cook know that this is not the temp we ordered. At this point, the cook is now cleaning the grill and let me know. I should speak to the server, I spoke to the server and the server told me I should speak to the manager, I spoke to the manager, and he said that he would have it fixed in the back For us. He took our food and returned in about 10 minutes with other steaks and vegetables. Again, I and My Son ordered fillet mignon. He brought us back regular steak and brung the two children’s regular steaks back at this point. We took a few bites after waiting and said we were taken to go after speaking with the manager we were offered complementary fried ice cream. We asked for to go boxes and our check asking the server several times for refills and could not get any and asking the servers several times for a knife because the meat was not cut into bite sizes. We said we would go home and finish our meals upon arrival of the check, I noticed that they charged us for fillet but served us regular steak. And I was also charged for a side of shrimp that I was told came with the meal. I spoke to another manager and let her know about the fillets and about the shrimp she replies with how many shrimp did you eat? At this point, The way she approached me, was not apologetic. Her question was in front of other customers. How many shrimp did me and my children eat? I was appalled at this point the way we were treated and the way she were questioning children about how much they ate and at this point started yelling match with the manager. She then took off the fillet and charge us for regular steaks and comped a fried ice cream for my niece. I did not ask for these things to be given to me for free I only want what I ordered. I am very unhappy with our experience. I will no longer be visiting this establishment after being a loyal customer since they opened. Better servers and management is needed. Even other parties at our tables agreed the food and service was horrible and was shocked how the manager...
Read moreWe usually really like it here, however today the service was terrible. Typically we go later in the evenings, but tonight we went at 6PM. There was about a 35 minute wait for our party of 5, which was not typical for us, but expected for the time of day. After being seated, we waited for about 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken. After another 10 minutes, the drinks arrived, however they were wrong. The waiter corrected it after about another 5 minutes. At this point our food orders were taken. We ordered hibachi for 4 of us and 1 person ordered only sushi. In total 3 of us ordered sushi. The chef came up after about 10 minutes following our orders being taken, salad and soup came, and he began cooking. The chef was not nearly as lively as usual, however our table wasnt the super excitable either. The food he made was very good, portions were on the smaller side yet acceptable. This is where I began to get upset. Our meal was cooked and we still had no sushi. Being as how 1 person only ordered sushi for a meal, this was not acceptable. (This is about 40 ish minutes following ordering). We intended to eat sushi as appetizers so we all were letting our food get cold waiting for it to show up. I grabbed our waiter and asked about the sushi. He "checked" on it and said it wouldn't be much longer, they were just very busy. At this point, the other patrons at our table were finished eating, getting boxes and about to cash out. Following asking about the sushi, about 15 minutes later it finally came. I expressed my frustration to the server. He asked about the food about 5 minutes after getting the sushi. After finishing dinner we ordered 3 desserts.
All in all, the food was all tasty. No complaints there. However, the service tonight was lacking. I absolutely would not recommend going during peak times, because they are not prepared to handle the...
Read moreI've been going to Koto every now and then for years now as my wife enjoys the hibachi "experience" so this review is really only regarding hibachi.
If you go during lunch or dinner times the place is generally busy enough that you won't have to wait long before the grill/table fills enough to have them start.
the service is sufficient and the wait people have always been nice.
While overall I like the place and the food, the fact that I've going to this place for years allows me to recognize that the serving sizes have plummeted.
For starters you get a small soup and salad as an appetizer while you wait for the chef. I like the dressing they use whatever it is. The soup is broth with a few mushrooms in it. Tasty enough.
For the meal I generally order the scallop and steak combo which costs a little extra. Unfortunately the last time I was here I only got maybe 4-5 scallops in total. Also the steak piece that they give you is really very tiny. Plus that includes the fat that was on my piece.
You also get to choose fried rice or/and Chinese noodles. the rice I noticed has less in it. It used to have little pieces of peas, carrots, onions, etc. Not there's very little of any of that. Maybe a few peas but that's about it. Likewise the noodles are just noodles cooked in sauce.
That said, it all tasted good. Just hard not to notice the price increase and lesser serving size.
As for the hibachi "show". Maybe I'm just because I'm old or maybe its because I've been here a few times but once you've seen it once there's no surprises. Same old act and my chef while proficient, he seemed to be going through the motions. Its probably enjoyable if you haven't seen it before. Plus kids usually love it.
When I went there with my wife last week it ended up being about $100 total. That was for 2 hibachis, a soda and one sake...
