This has to be bar none the best place in the area to come for breakfast and everyone knows it. Their food, service and prices are all great. They also do a lunch menu if that is what you are looking for. I generally get their biscuits and gravy breakfast that comes with two eggs, home fries, and your choice of meat. Everything always comes with ample portions. Their home fries are delicious. They have great pancakes and french toast as well. You can get maple syrup for a small cost but you gotta ask for it. I enjoy sitting at the diner table where you can watch your meals being prepared. The wait staff is very nice, always ready to get whatever you may want. Food comes out hot, no cold eggs here. I will say that this restaurant is incredibly popular in the area so if you're planning on coming later on a Saturday or Sunday morning you may have to wait to be seated but never for very long. There is some seating available for the wait, which is nice. The restaurant is a little ways, about a mile or two, off the interstate 95 expressway so you might consider stopping here on a trip. Parking is a little tricky when the place is jumping but never where you won't find a spot. They really are the place to go for a morning meal. The restaurant is always clean and inviting. They are a child friendly restaurant with child seats available. I see families come in all the time, especially on the weekends. They do have accommodations for larger parties and are handicap and wheelchair accessible. If you're looking for great food and friendly atmosphere with plenty on the plate for the price this is your spot. Always remember that it is very popular so plan accordingly. I can't praise...
Read moreWell, today was a special occasion , out for a birthday luncheon. It started by having to wait for someone to seat us, a Very long wait. Ya see, there wasn't even anybody to wait for, the restaurant was more than half empty. Then, once seated, the waitress came to take our order. WOWZER, she came with an ATTITUDE, an attitude as big as their pies. She was like, we were bothering her. Seriously though, she acted like we were bothering Her. Well, after the order was placed, she came back without our beverages. She came back to ask us if we NEEDED ANYTHING to DRINK, OH MY GOD!!! So,,, we ate, drank and we're not MERRY!!!!!!!! She never even came back to see how our meals were. We finished our meals. , still thirsty for refills. We figured we should deal with what we had, instead of asking for anything. The food was GREAT, But something to drink would have been really good. Meal now over, we decided to just pay and leave and get Dessert somewhere else. What a BUMMER, WE REALLY WANTED DESSERT, We all wanted pie, especially me, I really wanted the coconut custard pie, my favorite. And I had told everyone to have the coconut custard pie. He'll, I probably would have ate it and ordered one to go. That is what I usually do. But with her attitude and lack of help, we decided against it. We did TIP her, against our better judgement not to, but we did TIP her, and I might add, really well!! She never even thanked us for our enormous TIP!! OH WELL, YOU...
Read moreJust wanted to say that The Shack Restaurant in Groton Connecticut is probably one of the very best breakfast joints I've ever been to! Even with the challenges of covid-19 this gem holds its own and still offers excellent food. All the tables are separated by tall dividers. All employees wear their masks and the waitstaff enforce the lited capacity rules as well as the mask mandate.
The "French Scramble" dish is absolutely hands down fantastic. The scrambled eggs were bursting with cheese and packed with flavor. Not too eggs tasting. The home fries were not spicy, not peppery and NOT BURNT like they usually are at most diners! The home fries had choped onions and possibly bacon bits in them? The spices were really good! The French toast looked plan and uninteresting on the surface. But the moment I took a bite I was in heaven. They were not too soggy, not too eggy. The maple syrup was really good and the powdered sugar really complimented the French toast.
Customer service was pretty good and it did not take long for our food to be ready on the table. The proportions were very generous and the best part was the price!
1 order eggs Benedict with home fries 1 order of the French scramble with extra cheese, 2 slices of toast, home fries and real syrup 1 sodas and 1 hot chocolate $34.33!
Kudos and so much praise to The Shack in Groton Connecticut! Thank you Ontavia Dull for being...
