We've ordered from Mob Pizzeria a few times. While the food itself is quality, the upcharge for additional toppings is not. $4 to receive a noticeably small amount of 1 additional topping on a large pizza.
To put it into perspective, twice in the last month I have ordered a large Fra Diavolo from them and then paid to add 4 extra toppings. At $16 just for extra toppings, it more than doubles the price. The first time I ordered this I was very satisfied, a good amount of toppings. I paid an awful lot extra but it was so worth it. The second time? Less than half the toppings I got the first time. They're not consistent in their practices and it looks like they lean toward significantly fewer toppings for the price.
When it was less the second go around I took the loss on the chin, I was starving and did not have bandwidth, I had scarcely managed to even order food. I figured that maybe ordering so many extra toppings was unreasonable. Maybe 4 toppings on a pizza for them meant the pizza didn't cook right. Or maybe there was some other justification. I felt ripped off, but maybe it was still my fault.
Ordered a pizza with 2 toppings today. Pepperoni and onions. The pepperoni they gave a good amount. But the onions? Hardly any. Of the 5 slices we ate today 3 had zero onion on them and the others it was 1 or 2 bites that had onion on it. At two toppings added and still the amount is this meager? It's clear my excusing the last pizza was wrong, they're just very cheap on toppings.
Compared to other pizzerias in the area, they may charge a reasonable amount for additional toppings (on the lower end I've seen $3/topping on comparable pizzas elsewhere) but the amount of toppings they give is far less than their competition. And whether we're talking extra toppings or what normally comes on it, every other place I've been gives more toppings generally (other than pepperoni, Mob Pizzeria seems to be fine with getting that right) and from the worst of what Mob Pizzeria has served me, many places are giving double the amount of toppings without charging more.
After this experience we were told by store management (by way of Slice, who we ordered through) that if we wanted more toppings we should indicate we want extra which comes with a $4 price tag per topping. So what they mean is we should pay $8/topping so that we can have a normal amount! That's just offensive - you're giving a FRACTION of what other restaurants put on their pizzas. So what you're saying is your actual rate for a normal amount of extra toppings is $8/topping? That's obscene.
I get that toppings have a price and some toppings are more expensive than others, but toppings are not that expensive. An eighth of a red onion is not $4 of material and labor nor is it a "normal" amount of toppings. I cannot understand their business model here, but either way - they have lost our business, there are many comparable pizzerias in the area who will actually give a reasonable amount of toppings without charging a higher price or asking you to pay more before they'll provide it.
Rating at 2 stars because, despite the extremely disappointing amount of toppings, in every other way the pizza is of good quality (the crust, the sauce, and how well the pizza is made overall are all top tier, and the turnaround time is decent) that would be worthy of consideration, but the meager amounts of toppings and the relatively obscene price per topping while being told we're not paying enough to get a normal amount is what caps them at 2 stars.
This is really an easy fix and I hope management takes my suggestion seriously: please do market research on your competition's price per topping and volume per topping when it comes to ordering extra toppings. Management should consider lowering their price per topping and/or increasing the amount of toppings they give per additional topping to be more competitive...
Read moreWhat a great experience at mob Pizza. The place was attractive in black tiles with classic pictures and posters from mob related movies. We were happy to finally get here as we heard of them a few months ago. The smell of pizza as soon as you enter gives you a smile right off the bat. We felt like pizza and we felt like burgers so we got both here. First off the pizza has a tasty crust and sauce and perfect amount of cheese. Pizza done well for sure. Lydia got a mob burger which was cooked as requested with lettuce and tomato. I got the goodfellas burger, also cooked perfect, with pepper, onion and a creamy cheddar sauce. We got a vanilla shake to go with the burgers since it's a great mix. We also got an order of fries to try (we normally don't eat carbs during the week) and they were great quality, tasty and crispy the way a fry should be. The young lady working the front of house was pleasant and helpful and the people in the kitchen obviously know what they are doing. Simple foods, great quality done right. It's all you can hope for and expect. Give this place a visit and know you'll be going...
