My family and I arrived at this restaurant, famished as we could ever be. We had just come from a 5k race, which we had all participated in. Of course, finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. Anyway, we get to the "restaurant" and notice there are TV's throughout the seating area! Very convenient, or so we thought. We were seated in the corner, and asked for the USA vs Trinidad and Tobago soccer match to be put on. A few minutes later, our waitress comes over to take our order, but unbeknownst to us, she had forgot her paper to take down our orders! Preposterous! I thought to myself. "You shall never have a second chance to make a first impression!" the youngest says. When she returns she announces, unfortunately we are out of the sirloin (the only steak on the menu!!) okay, I thought to myself, it's okay since we are really here for the Salmon!! Soon after, the appetizers come out, and the volume of hummus which was provided in comparison to the amount of crackers provided, was obscene! However, we later received more crackers after complaining. 5 minutes later, our drinks were finally delivered, which we had ordered soon after we sat down, along with the appetizers. We were ready to order, but our table was bombarded with employees! 3-4 employees all standing around trying to talk to us as we ordered! Extremely inappropriate to my standard. We were then told 10 minutes after we had ordered that they were out of the salmon! I had fell to my knees as tears filled my eyes, my night was ruined! We STORMED out of the place to take our business elsewhere, and throughout 4 different times of asking, the soccer game was not put on any tv! absurd! We of course left a tip for our waitress, then left. We will never return here, nor will anyone from...
Read moreUpdate: Gave Grand Avenue Tavern another shot after hearing they got a new chef who learned at the Station in Mt. Lakes. Very Good! Myself and others had bad experiences when they changed from Bea's. Local peeps...its definitely worth giving the menu another try.
My family and I went the first day of their soft opening. I was hoping to see more changed inside than their was, but that wasn't a big deal at all. Between the stained glass and previous decor, I still liked how it looked inside...and we were more eager to try the new (and hopefully improved food). We were told how they got a well respected chef who was coming from a restaurant in Chatham, so things were looking up. Well, hope changed to disappointment. The Manhattan Clam Chowder was no different than opening a can of Progresso (which we told the assistant manager). The rest of my families dishes were so-so to just disappointing. Friends of ours in town said their experience a few days later was terrible (as in the food). They couldn't even cook steak right. Once again, just like Beas...maybe good for a drink and an appetizer (I miss the Ruben rolls)...but for lunch or dinner, we are in certainly in NO rush to come back. Very disappointed, as we live so close...and we're excited about what was supposed to be an improvement in...
Read moreNothing Grand about this place :( The nachos and wings were mediocre. Mac n Cheese Bites drizzled with vodka sauce.... where was the drizzled vodka sauce??? Whatever was on the side was NOT vodka sauce. Tried one of the fat sandwiches...the tomato sauce on top was just awful and cold (cheap store bought sauce, yuck!!!). The bread for the sandwich was even worse. Tasteless, fell apart, cheap cheap bread. How about getting your bread from a reputable distributor like Anthony and Sons. Did we even dare order dessert?? Well, we thought how can they mess that up? Tried the chocolate lava cake.... well.... again nothing Grand about it and the ice cream was freezer burnt and obviously a cheap brand as well. Also, not one pasta dish, steak or seafood dish on the menu. More of a college hang out considering limited menu and the pool tables and flip cups tables that now fill the rooms that used to be for indoor dining. The only good thing about our visit was our server. Very disappointed ..... Definitely...
