Four Seasons Wine & Liquor — Restaurant in Hadley

As others have reiterated, I had many great experiences in this store with their selection and their employees, but had such a negative experience tonight that I felt compelled to speak up. Instead of the usual night employees I encounter after work, I was checked out by an older gentleman I can only assume to be an owner. I placed my liquor and my ID on the counter to start our transaction. Upon many seconds of intense looking between myself and my ID, the man laughed and told me to "Get the fk out of here" as he tossed my ID to the side. Now, I understand skepticism, but luckily, I carry my passport with the exact same information as my ID printed on it. Upon examination of my identification side by side, he decided to proceed with my transaction, but not before letting me know my ID belonged to "Someone he knows that only comes in the afternoons". I work in retail, so I of all people understand that bad days can really wear on you, so I tried to mediate and explain that I fully understood his skepticism, but I felt that he had been out of line. His parting remark was "I mean it, don't fking come back again." I admittedly hate that this review will come back down upon the innocent employees, but I felt that my status as an Asian man in a majority white town might have been a factor in this entire exchange, and I felt something...

An absolute anomaly. Best selection I have ever seen and the best prices I've ever seen and not just in the area (lived in Boston, NYC, Concord) yet the place is absolutely tiny. It looks like they curate to make sure they get only the good stuff coming in. Friendliest staff you'll ever find. They got an absolute wine genius who SHOULD be making six figures as a New York sommelier and is always excited to give a recomedation. Regular sales, local brews as well as your domestic mainstays, best price for whiskey like Lagavulin, Achentoshen, Balvenie, Glenmorangie, in the valley. Even the cigar selection Is excellent. Literally the best liquor store I've been to. They have super friendly and knowledgeable staff. One employee is an absolute expert on wine, and the other employees have recommended whiskeys to me on several occasions (which I enjoyed!). They always have whiskeys and wines on sale, roughly 15-20% off. They've got all the high quality cocktail essentials you could need, whether it's Luxardo cherries or a wide selection of bitters. Their prices are, to my knowledge, the best in town, after comparing with 3 other local liquor stores. If you're looking for quality, they have many top shelf whiskeys from the US, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, and plenty more.
