Tortuga Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Hagerstown

Bar tender was incredibly nice and attentive, but the menu overall was boring and tasteless.

My date and I went on a Friday night, and they had karaoke going. I found this odd because karaoke night is generally midweek, while a DJ or a real music group is booked on Fridays when I go to other places. We were there around 8:15 pm, and left around 9:05. We waited a good while to get the check, which was a bit frustrating as the place wasn't what I would consider "busy" to justify waiting so long. I would have expected more people considering it being such a large space and in close proximity to a main road. That's just my opinion and what I've experienced when I go to bars, I may be out of touch in that department, who knows?

We tried queso dip, and we were told the coconut shrimp was actually butterfly shrimp. We declined ordering the shrimp after hearing this. After having the queso dip, we decided that we were not going to continue exploring the menu. The queso was watery and lacked aestetic appeal because it was a milky brown color with shredded cheddar and jack cheese on top. The chips were greasy. You get better queso at fast food restaurants compared to this.

The drinks we had were good, a mango margarita, and what they called the tortuga, which tasted like a sex on the beach. We had no issues with the drinks.

We will not be returning. We will not be recommending anyone to go here. They need significant improvements to the menu, food, and event management if they intend to remain...

Had dinner with 6 friends overall food was great and portions large. Entering the restaurant we were greeted by a very nice hostess and seated near the large windows. The manager (Penny) of the Restaurant/Bar approached our table and complained that she was the bartender and server and manager because nobody else would work. She took our drink orders and as we tried to make her feel at ease that we are not in a hurry to take her time, she was not very engaging with any of that. We then we had a server that took our order (Bobby) she was equally negative about the restaurant complaining that today would be her last day and how she wasn't going to stay here. When she told us that the Manager Penny was her mother it all made better sense. Food was great however after receiving the wrong appetizer ,then taking it off the table after we said we would pay for it and Bobby told us it was for another table not us. Atmosphere was okay could be improved and less lighting to set the mood for a night of fun and dancing remove the IHOP, Shoneys or Denny's restaurant feel. My overall experience was great however 100.00 for 2 people to eat in that atmosphere/service was not worth a second trip back there especially with the current staff that is running the area. Would highly recommend spending money and gratuity elsewhere in Hagerstown there is plenty of other establishments that will...

It's a little concerning when you first walk in cuz there was absolutely nobody there actually thought the place wasn't really open was about to turn around and walk out and some guy came out and said pick wherever you would like to sit somebody would be with us in just a moment Kayla was our server we found out they had some kind of event going on on the other side of the restaurant she was the only person we saw the entire time however the food was completely to die for started with the brussel sprouts as an app and they were Beyond fantastic had the rib dinner the the meat was falling off of the bones a lot heavy on the barbecue sauce for me but the flavor of the barbecue sauce was great I think the mashed potatoes a real and not a powder cuz they had little potato chunks in it the gravy must have been scratched made to because it was not salty like a powder gravy my husband had the lamb chops they were slightly overcooked but they were still very juicy and the flavor on them was phenomenal I had sweet tea to drink in my opinion it wasn't very sweet but I am from the south so I do like my tea very sweet and my husband had to have bottled beer because their Kegerator was not working but very reasonable prices for the quantity and quality that you get would highly recommend...
