Confucius House — Restaurant in Hales Corners

Had a very bad experience. Ordered a bunch of food. Over $300.00 worth. My food was packed in two boxes, but the way it was packaged a bunch of oil and sauce spilled all over the boxes, and in my car. At home I had to transfer all the food in new trays as the ones they had were messed up. I called the restaurant and just told them that they need to be careful about how they package the food. I was told that they packed the food correctly that I probably spilled it in my car. I said how and why would the food spill in the car if it was in boxes. The lady on the phone told me that she didn't think it was their fault but I could have some cookies next time for free. I told her that my family has ordered alot of food from them in the last few months and they just need to be careful and not offer me some cookies. We have probably ordered about $1500.00 since June.

One of the items that I ordered was the Pad thai. On the menu it doesn't say what's in it, so I told the lady that took my order that I wanted only vegetables in the Pad Thai. The rest if my food I wanted halal The Pad Thai had chicken, shrimp, and another kind of meat in it. I called the restaurant and ask to speak to the manager. Explained to him how upset I was and told him about the Pad Thai. I told him that I was bringing it back to the restaurant and I wanted it remade or a refund. He said that I was lying and that I did not order vegetable only. I told him that I had guest over and we dont eat shrimp. He told me he would not take the food back and that I could take him to court and hung up the phone on me. I even told him that I have referred the restaurant to so many people and he said he didn't care. I think I have had more respect at a fast food restaurant then this place. I'm honestly sad I didn't have a good experience, I was so excited about Confucius House after reading the reviews!

If I gave the best review just being critical of the important things, I would say this:

We ordered General Tso's Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup and Chicken Chop Suey.

Several pieces out of the General Tso's Chicken were literally unchewable, pink and raw. It was not spicy or sweet and had an odd seafood-type after taste.

The chicken in the Chop Suey was actually very very tender, it practically melted in my mouth and was well seasoned without smelling or tasting gamey as some chicken can. I was very pleased with this but then the sauce and vegetables in the Chop Suey itself was basically like eating salted cooked cornstarch and water. It had very little flavor.

The hot and sour soup was like something I've had in a sub par mall food court and not something I expected to have in this restaurant.

Service: I noticed other tables were helped as soon as they came in, and some that were seated and eating before us, looked at our table and then at the front where the greeter was watching TV and then at the server who was wrapping silverware. I wanted to be patient and wait until someone came to us and it was literally 10 mins where the server brought us water and didn't even ask what we would like to drink. They didn't come back after that to check on us, they did with other tables though.

We were able to call someone over to get some chilli crisp in oil when we asked for hot sauce (the entire quart sized container).

We really didn't feel like they cared about our business at all and didn't feel comfortable dealing with the aftermath of letting them know our chicken was raw.

I really wanted to have a good experience here after I read all the amazing reviews. Halal...

Mostly bad, some good. Something is very wrong in the kitchen here. And, with the management. We placed a pickup order yesterday, 17-Aug-2024. Ordered egg roll, scallion pancakes, sizzling rice soup, shrimp egg foo young, honey walnut shrimp, and crispy shrimp and scallops. Woman at pickup window was in a crabby mood. We also could not get an itemized receipt.

Egg roll was very greasy. Scallion pancakes were greasy and not puffed up, as traditional. Never got to the sizzling rice soup. We could not find the shrimp egg foo young. The honey walnut shrimp was very good. The "crispy" shrimp and scallops was a soggy, sloppy mess surrounded by a very watery sauce. No crispness in the shrimp or scallops whatsoever. And it was only half an order. Surprise... buried under it were the two egg foo young patties. Both entrees were dumped into the same sloppy, watery mess within a small container. Again, they gave us only 1/2 of what they should have for shrimp and scallops. Once removed, the egg foo young was okay, however drenched in the very watery "crispy" shrimp and scallops sauce. We also ended up with someone else order of some type of breaded, "crispy" large shrimp entree containing broccoli. Again, the shrimp was a soggy, sloppy mess. Absolutely, no crispness.

We can only recommend the honey walnut shrimp and possibly the shrimp egg foo young. Just hope that they do not dump both into the same small container. Confucius is...
