When we arrived at 12:30, there were literally 2 parking spots left. Amazingly, to me anyway, we were seated right away. This place is really big inside and seats a lot of people, there some really large groups there too. They brought us chips, and 4 bowls of sauces: salsa, really hot salsa, some kind of creamy avocado, and queso. I'm not lying, actual delicious, hot queso, at no extra charge! The other sauces were really good too. The server who took our order was friendly and very attentive throughout our whole visit. We never saw the bottom of our iced tea glasses.
This is one of those Mexican restaurants where they have pictures on the menu, seafood, and some fare not usually seen at your typical local Tex-Mex places. I believe Jalisco style would most accurately describe it. It reminds me of places I've enjoyed much further south in our great state.
On to the main course. My buddy and I both ordered the #26, the Tex-Mex plate it's called. This wonderful, wonderful plate has 2 cheese enchiladas with chili sauce (almost a gravy, but not quite), beef stew (Guiso really, but they call it stew), rice, and refried beans. The beef stew had a great red chili flavor with chunks of lean, tender beef. The stew was spicy, but not hot. Inspiration struck me and I put the stew on top of my rice, I'm glad I did, it was good. The cheese enchiladas were good and cheesy, inside and out, but not overpoweringly cheesy, they really hit the sweet spot. I wish the enchiladas had onions, but I'll ask for that next time. The rice was very flavorful, and had peas and corn in it. Some people don't like that, but I've never really cared either way, just as long as it's good, and it was. I'd give the beans a solid B+. The meal comes with flour or corn tortillas, we both got corn, they were pretty good but could have used butter (that's such a Gringo thing to say, I know). The food came out piping hot, like I needed to give it a minute to cool off, that added to the deliciousness of it as well.
All in all, I totally stand by my 5 star rating, and will definitely be going back to explore the menu further. This place is not fancy, but it's not a dive either. However, I've given s**t holes with surly service 5 stars too if the food was awesome enough. The service was great here though, and two different gentlemen, whom I assume were managers and/or owners were going around and checking on tables to make sure everyone was happy. Try it, I bet...
Read moreOn Friday, August 22nd, myself & the missus popped into this restaurant for lunch on a suggestion she gave. It sounded good, so off we went. Our server was Ami, and she was absolutely fantastic!! I want to say that she had been there for about a year (??). Doesn't matter. The service she gave, one would think she had been there for several years. It's one of those cases of someone knowing their job so well, they could do it blindfolded, with one hand tied behind their back! Yes ... Ami was/is that good! This being my first time at this particular restaurant & location, I honestly did not know what to expect. Talk about surprised!! Geez ... they even have everything from live entertainment to karoake!! I was so impressed by our server ... and oh, the food!! The food is KILLER!!! I wish I weren't on a diet, I sooooo want some their enchiladas!! Well good news ... I broke my diet that day for chips & salsa ... well, we both did (lol) ... and I had a chimichanga. That sucker was HUGE! Well, I thought so anyway. The missus had grilled beef fajitas. The food, like our server, did not disappoint. But I need to digress here for a moment. In mentioning live entertainment ... they have mariachi groups, an Elvis impersonator, another imitation singer who impersonates various Mexican artists, AND karoake nites, so you can get your fill of wonderful entertainment, great food, & awesome service. I spoke to the manager, Genaro, who not only gave me the aforementioned info, but took time to show some videos from off his cell phone he had to some of their events. In short ... these people at El Tejas have a complete understanding of "quality" customer service! From the manager, to the kitchen, to even our server who was clearly alert, outgoing, observant, as she was friendly ... these are award winning traits we both look for in a dining experience. It's what makes us return to a restaurant such as El Tejas. If I were a judge to a tv show called "America's Got Restaurants ... I would be slamming the golden buzzer for El Tejas every single time! So thank you Ami, and thank you El Tejas for a fantastic, unforgettable dining experience. Wow! We will definitely...
Read moreSo my family (4) came to this restaurant for my father's birthday. And the service was pretty terrible. We were not greeted and waited for someone to sit us. Eventually they told us to sit ourselves, so we did. They brought us chips an salsa with 3 different kinds of salsa, which were alright. They took our drink orders and then once we got those, they finally gave us menus. Overall the Quality of the food was not that bad nor was it not that good. My brother ordered a side of grilled shrimp and that already cost $12.99 for just 6 burn shrimp. Once we got the bill, I went a head and gave them my card. I did look at the itemized receipt. And I noticed the the final total was exactly $80 & change. My brother also looked at the recipet and noticed the amount as well. I paid, My brother tipped, & we left without a recipet. I wasn't feeling to good about the experience and decided to check my card statement. And they had up charge me on something because my card was charge $87 dollars. I thought that was very fishy and read more reviews of the place and other people have had the same problem too. So I know I'm not imaging things. Horrible place. Will definitely not go back and letting everyone that I know. Not...
