The food was nearly inedible and multiple things in our order were incorrect. Despite me and my partner being the only 2 people in the restaurant, we waited 20-30 minures for our food. The waitress interacted with us almost exactly 3 times: To sit us down. To take our order. And to give us our check. We did not receive any refills on our drinks, nor did she check on us while we were waiting for our food or while we were dining. Her demeanor was entirely unfriendly, and made the dining experience more unpleasant than it already was. I ordered the chicken-fried steak and my partner got a breakfast platter. I asked for hard fried eggs and received unseasoned medium eggs, my partner asked for no bacon, and extra sausage links. He received extra bacon and sausage patties. When my chicken-fried steak had arrived I couldn't even see the steak because of how much gravy was slathered on it, and the steak itself had such a terrible flavor I couldn't even finish it. Both of our hashbrowns had a mushy texture and tasted similar to poorly seasoned mash potatoes. The toast my meal came with was as crunchy as a crouton, I could genuinely snap it in half. The best part of my meal was the bacon, which was mediocre at best, it tasted like your standard store-bought bacon. This is by all means personal preference, but I found the atmosphere of the restaurant to be dull and uninviting.
Their Mexican food options may very well be better than their American food, but our experience was so terrible you could not pay me to go back. I can not recommend against this...
Read moreThe odds are if you have been to a Café or Diner more than once in your life, you have probably experienced a meal or two that were pretty bad. The kind that had you asking, ”Really, how did they manage to mess that up? It was eggs, sausage, and toast. “ Well, that was me this morning at The Café. I ordered the Early Bird Special; 2 eggs over medium, sausage patty and grits. I was served egg whites that were still runny and the yolk even worse, plus cold. The grits were not ready yet, and the sausage was burnt. The waitress said she would have it fixed. I wish I had thought of taking a picture. Plate 2, the eggs had this brown hard top layer like burnt grease or butter. When I cut into the egg, it was clear she skipped medium and went straight to hard. On top of that, they tasted and chewed like rubber. I guess she threw the already overcooked sausage back on the grill. Now it was rock hard with burnt egg on one side. This time the grits came too. I’m not sure what she was doing before when they were not ready, it sure was not cooking then since they still were far from cooked. She brought half melted butter for the grits and the grits were so cold they could not melt the butter the rest of the way. You know the way food tastes like it’s packaging when it has sat in the pantry too long? Well, that’s what the undercooked andvcold grits tasted like. I remember when this was once a rather busy diner, but after today I see why it always...
Read moreHad a strong craving for some biscuits and gravy so I dashed into The Cafe. Was afraid it was going to be busy based on the cars in the parking lot but I think they were all at the thrift store sale. I sat myself in a comfy booth. Ordered coffee, water, biscuits and gravy, side of crunchy bacon and hashbrowns. The GOOD: Biscuits were beyond amazing! Fluffy and not a dry or hard spot on them. 🤤 Coffee was great! Perfectly brewed and not so hot that you can't enjoy it right away.
The BAD: Only two people working. One working the floor and the other one cooking the food and washing the dishes. The young man working the floor was definitely trying! However, it was impossible for him to cover everything. A gentleman next to me ordered some more coffee which he never received. Two UPS workers came in, looked irritated and ended up leaving. My food was delivered and I had to wait for him to finish helping everyone else and ask him for utensils to eat with. The hash browns were HARD. Not just a little crunchy, they were hard! The bacon is paper thin. They tried to get it crunchy, which I appreciate, but it was kind of a weird experience with it being so thin.
All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. I'm glad it wasn't busier than it was as it could have turned bad very quickly!
Total was...
