Wow, as everyone says here, these are really great egg rolls. (They would be called "spring rolls" in many places. They have a crispy, flaky crust.) The place is super-modest, a hole in the wall in an older strip center on upper Belknap, devoted to Vietnamese-American businesses. Carry-out and CASH ONLY.
But they have absolutely mastered this delicacy and sell it for a too modest price. The crust is perfectly crunchy and flaky, and the filling is fresh and tasty. You can get 20 of these delicious wonders for $15 cash, tax included, enough for 3 or 4 people. They don't have sauce, but you don't need it. Like really great bar-b-q doesn't need sauce, these don't either. But they are great with mae ploy or any sweet pepper sauce.
Also amazingly, after they cool down you can re-heat them in an air fryer or toaster oven, and the crispy crust is magically resurrected, crispy and flaky once again!
These kinds of businesses are so excellent and so great. Local and family owned, and laser focused on doing a few things as perfectly as they can be done, and then pricing them fairly. (There are "foodie" places who do some things nearly perfectly, but their prices are often outrageous, and too expensive for regular people.) This is a working-class place that outdoes the gourmet emporiums and should be applauded and frequented by...
Read moreThe food is awesome! Been coming here for years. Why then do I dare give them less than 5 stars? I can understand when a place is popular and you are busy it can be overwhelming but please have consideration for your customers who walk in. I used to live nearby and visit often. I now live almost an hour away. We decided to make a run by there and pick up some rolls. We know better then to expect to be able to walk in and order any large amount of rolls because they always have a backlog, and that's an awesome thing for them. We wanted a few rolls. We waited patiently for assistance. About ten minutes. Placed our order and was told to come back in an hour to hour and a half. I explained that it was not possible, that we made a special trip and was it really going to take that long for a small order? In their defense they replied with a nod but it didn't seem right. So we drove away hungry, confused, and let down.
Maybe it is time to expand the...
Read moreThe best egg rolls. Have been going here for the last 10 years, and they never disappoint. They take cash only, and you SHOULD call ahead. If you want holiday eggrolls, call days in advance! People order 200-300 at a time on major holidays. We usually order 25 or more, and they come out HOT!!!!. They will smell so amazing in your car that you will be tempted to grab one, don't! Put them in the back where u can't reach them. It's a very small location in a strip mall that you would miss if you blink. Don't let the look fool you... just order the eggrolls. If you can get the sauce, ask for that too!! I stopped in last month on my visit to Texas after having moved to STL, and the egg rolls are a tad smaller but still the best in the area. They have a few other foods there, but most people go for the egg rolls. Trust me on this one. And don't say I didn't warn you that they...
