Where do I start? We read about The Lucky Well, which just opened in Hamilton, Ohio recently. We love a good pub and decided to give it a try. One of our better decisions!
Oh my goodness. And I do mean goodness! Great location, great atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff.
We started off with a couple appetizers: The High Street Crispy Shrimp was delectable. It had a whisky glaze and came with a malt vinegar slaw. I am not a cole slaw person. But this changed my mind. So different than all the cookie cutter slaws. The flavor of the shrimp was very satisfying, and I could have made a meal out of just this--hah, and should have when I think of all I had eaten. "Crispy" was an understatement. Delicious. The potato leek soup was good and hot and was served with a large slice of soda bread. In fact, all the food here was quite plentiful.
I chose the fish and chips for my entrée. This dish was a close second to the fish and chips I once had at a Scottish pub in Victoria, Canada. The fish and chips at The Lucky Well was absolutely perfection. It came with some malt vinegar slaw and mushy peas, and a side of crinkle sliced fries. They were crisp outside and soft inside and very flavorful. All were equally good and great accompaniments to the meal. My husband had the handheld beer battered cod on rye with onion rings. Equally as good as the cod entrée.
My brother-in-law opted for shepherd's pie. It was rich and delicious and comforting.
We shared the cheesecake and Guinness bread pudding for dessert. Oh my. I do not like bread pudding. Until now. It was hot and crispy with tart apples and a wonderfully rich whisky caramel sauce. The cheesecake was one of the best I have had. It, too, had a caramel sauce, and just one small bite was a fluffy explosion of cream.
What a great time at The Lucky Well, and a delicious meal. I'm very glad we live only a short distance away. We...
Read moreI made reservations for a Saturday and upon arrival the front desk male whom I think may have been one of the managers was a bit flustered it seemed when I told him he we had a reservation which made me worry he did not have us down but luckily he found mine. He sat us down at a table shortly after our sweet waitress asked if we were with a party of a name I did not know so I told her no and she kinda looked confused too so she left and came back asking if there was a Caleb with out party and I laughed and said “no” and she replied “Okay bare with me I just had 4 tables sat at the same time with reservations “ I wondered why they sat 4 reservations in her section because at the time they had open tables . But anyway the food was good and the atmosphere was great and hopefully they figure out the reservations as time goes !!!! I will return and if you tend to be cold bring a jacket it...
Read moreVery nice vibe of a restaurant for what the town offers. It's an Irish pub so the food is gonna give you plenty of Irish options. It's reasonable, friendly atmosphere. The food isn't bad. It's not the worst. It's not the greatest but it's convenient for staying at the hotel and in the vicinity. Ordered a shepherds pie and it was tasty, but it was kind of a skimpy dish which still sort of had me left a little hungry or to wake up like I did extra early to be hungry. The guy next to me ordered the Parmesan crusted chicken. It looked super dry as that that's the effect the Parmesan has and I could tell he was not happy with it, which is bad when the bartender kept saying how the chicken and he was like "eh" and then she saw he wasn't eating and didn't...
