Sadly, a 2 is the highest rating I can give Tano Bistro Hamilton. I've been to the Loveland location many times and based on this visit I'd likely never go back. Realize that we used to be regulars at the Loveland location and staff would know us since it was our favorite place in town before burning down.
We were seated promptly, and the server was friendly. I asked about the beers on tap and didnt need to be told how wonderful the beer was that they didnt have. We got good local craft beers (3) and a great mixed drink.
Appetizer of snouts and sprouts was cooked well and tasty, but was 98% sprouts.
The table ordered the pork chop. A rib pasta meal and two of the NY steak strip special. The pork chop was hot and likely the last meal to the window, but according to the guy who ate it was definitely overcooked. The rib pasta meal was good, though it wasnt hot.
My NY strip steak meal came with grits (which were very good!) and brussel sprouts (also good!). The NY strip steak was presented on the plate over the grits sliced on the bias into 7 or 8 pieces. Now think back... when has a NY strip steak ever been presented to you precut? For me this was a first. No issue until I ate the first bite, which wasn't even warm. Second bite I took from a piece in the middle, also not warm. A medium steak should be warm! So I asked the other diner if his steak was cold. He said yes. As I've been to Tanos before, I said Jim you are paying a good bit for our meals, I'm going to send this back, so he did as well. The second time the steak was warm, but of course half the party was done eating.
We had two celebration tortes for desert. They were 1/4th the size of the torte in Loveland. They however tasted very good and were comped, since it was Jim's birthday month.
I think the location is great and Hamilton deserves a great restaurant. I'm hoping this was just...
Read moreAny restaurant I go to that has brussel sprouts, I order them. The servers were excellent and kind. The sprouts arrived fairly quickly but unfortunately they were practically vaporized. Returned them. I had asked for Balsamic vinegar before I got the first batch. The replacements came piled in a thick bed of mayonnaise (aka aioli). I was hungry and bordering on low blood sugar so I did my best to extricate the still overcooked replacements from the mayo, dip them in the provided balsamic and eat. That and some $7 bread was dinner.
At another nearby restaurant I ordered a flatbread pepperoni pizza that advertised "hot honey". I was adamant that I did not want any honey on my pizza. I said that if you think it is something worth testing, put it on the side. That way I had a choice. It arrived drenched in honey and a side of more honey. I just paid and left it on the table.
Are the "cooks" in this area so arrogant that they think there way is the one and only way? This town is beautiful and there are some great restaurants. The Tano Bistro across the street and this hotel's restaurant are not in...
Read moreDelicious. Best burger I have had in forever. Lemon raspberry dessert was amazing. We wanted to celebrate a 1/2 day off and decided to hit Downtown Hamilton. I have wanted to try Tano's for a while and today was the day for a late lunch. I had the Tano Agave Burger which was outstanding. I had it rare - the beef was super flavorful. Everything on it was delicious. I had the house salad with it and the white balsamic dressing was delicious. The partner has the blackberry bbq sandwich which was also really good but we both preferred the burger. Definitely one of the best that we both have had...maybe ever. Truly delicious. We shared a plate of the truffle fries which were good. I wished they had an aioli with them. We finished with a lemon bombe which is lemon, basil and raspberry. The best dessert that either of have had in about 3 years. With my Raspberry Beret Beer (didn't pair well with anything I had but it was a great beer and I would most definitely buy it again), the total was roughly $65. Definitely a treat but not out of line with the quality of food and service...
