Was rolling through driving a semi truck hauling a load back from Florida, going home to Colorado. I love to find local places in different areas I am at. Super happy I found this place! It was really easy to find, right of the highway, and I was even able to park my semi truck right next to the restaurant.
First thing I noticed was the cleanliness of the restaurant. That's a great first impression. Secondly, I heard christian/gospel music playing. That's another plus. The menu was not too big, but still had enough food on there to fill every desire. I couldn't make up my mind on what to eat. Little bummed I came just an hour before they closed, as they were out of the daily special, and catfish, and a couple other things I wanted to try. Regardless I got the Crawfish Bread for appetizer, and the Kingdom Burger with sweet potato fries to eat. Plus I got some Banana pudding to go, and some fresh squeezed lemonade. Man the crawfish bread was offfff the hooook. That was so delicious. Then the burger came out, and the bun was perfect, the burger was cooked perfect, and the sweet potato fries were busssinnnnn. The lemonade was so good I could have drank a gallon of it!
One thing I noticed when I sat down, and was waiting for my food, was how important their faith in Jesus, and their family was to them. There was a beautiful picture of the owner and his wife and 4 beautiful kids right above the main counter. I love seeing stuff like that. Me and my wife are small business owners and we own a cleaning company back home in Colorado. I know all the challenges, and amount of faith it takes to step out and start your own business. Too see the owner and his wife with their 4 kids, in so many pics, look so happy simply melted my heart. I love when people step out and take a leap of faith like that!
Their 4 kids were sitting in a booth behind me, as I am sure they were hanging out since the restaurant was about to close. I observe everything. They were such sweet children, and the little girl said, "thank you Jesus" a few times out of nowhere, and it was so cool. They were very well behaved children, and you can tell they got a great mommy and daddy! I also met the owner, and he is a very nice dude! I asked him if he went to culinary or if he just know how to throw down in the kitchen....and throw down he does. VERY happy with the quality, cleanliness, atmosphere, and spirit of excellence I felt eating here! I 100% would definitely come here again and again if I lived in the area, and next time I am passing through I will definitely stop in again!
God bless you and your beautiful family my brother! I forgot your name cause I am horrible at...
Read moreOur 1st visit at the new location was disturbing. The old location was clean and welcoming where the new place was such a let down for us as existing customers. We were told to just sit anywhere we'd like, so we went mid-restaurant and got seated. As we took immediate notice, the table, under the napkin holder and salt & pepper shakers, was dirty and was stuck to the clear plastic table cover. The table itself felt greasy and uncleaned. We tried to move the napkin holder only to have the plastic covering move along with the holder. After unsticking the holder and spice shakers and moving them across the table to clean under them, we found what appeared to be dried ketchup and other condiments used as dipping sauces. Whoever cleans the tables apparently does not move anything around when wiping things down. We asked our waitress if they cleaned tables after each customer and her answer was. "I don't know, it's my 1st day!". After we squirted our hand sanitizer all over the table and began cleaning it ourselves, the waitress comes to our table with a damp bar towel and asked if she could clean it for us. We told her, "no, thank you, we're using a sanitizer with some clean napkins". After cleaning the sticky mess and grease from our table, our waitress brought our drinks and asked if we decided what we'd like to order. We asked for a few more minutes as we hadn't had time to look at the menu yet. We called her over and placed our order and sat back with thoughts of how good the seafood was which we had before at the other place, before they moved to downtown Hammond. We had been trying for weeks to patronize the new place, but parking is a beast down there and due to the two of us being handicapped, we cannot walk very far, so if there are no handicapped spaces close and available, we keep on looking for another restaurant with easier access. Our food came and we noticed immediately that the serving size had been reduced. At $16.50 for 4 small pieces of catfish, we won't be back, but let me say that it is unfortunate because the taste and quality of our lunch was exactly as we remembered. We are senior citizens and must really watch our budget as a fixed income cannot be squandered and spent all on one meal. The atmosphere was so much better at the Pumpkin center than the new place. We, unfortunately, will not return due to the experience we had yesterday. The dirty tables, smaller servings and atmosphere are our issues...sorry, Guys! As we were leaving, and being the ONLY customers in the building, not one employee said, "thanks for coming" or "goodbye"...I mean not one of them...
Read moreBeen wanting to try this place lots of people I know said it was good? First of all as soon as you enter the building you are blasted with loud repetitive so called music!! Then we have never been there and it was 10 mins later that it was brought to our attention that you ordered at the counter which you could not see if you was seated in the eating area! Next I stood at the counter for 7 or 8 mins waiting to give someone my order, had 3 different people look at me but never said can I help you? They brought my food out then 7 or 8 minutes later so the order sat out on side table and rang bell for order up it was another 5 to 6 minutes or so before someone deciding to bring it to our table after several people had passed it by. I had heard so much about their crawfish bread, not very pleasant ,way too much salt still can't figure out what the sour tang you got once you started chewing it. Ate 3/4 of one piece and left the other, the fried catfish the meat itself was good but the breading had absorbed lot of the grease during the frying process. The coke was horrible tasted like dish soap not sure it was from spout being cleaned or glasses not rinsed at $3.80 a pop! The surf and turf burger was ok but pricey! Fries ok. Don't know if we just caught them on a bad day or what. We won't be back sorry but you only get one chance to wow me at today's prices! Very disappointing we were so looking forward to trying this restaurant after we had heard...
