Having read the reviews, I decided to try out the Eisenhower Diner.
Before I begin, you should know I went during a slow morning, so your experience will vary if your go during peak hours.
The decor is simple, but nice and homey. The simple orange and grey work well together and open area in the front getts alot of natural light . the pictures on the walls are varied and nice from what I saw. The atmosphere was quite pleasant.
Within 1 mintue of entering, I was seated, and 30 seconds after that I had my drink orders in and 30 after that I had my drinks. The coffee was hot and fresh and the soda was perfect, not overly sweet and not flat/bitter.
I ordered their breakfast special, which is two pancakes (or french toast) two eggs any style (i got scrammed, cause im basic) a meat side (I got ham) and homefries with toast. I also got a side of biscuits and sausage gravy (and an extra side of saisage gravy that im not sure was on my bill at the end).
The pancakes were slightly sweet, almost cake like, good and filling. The eggs were completely cooked, nothing was runny. The ham was cooked thoroughly, though a little bland. Not bad, just simple. The homefries were good. Soft potato on the inside, and slightly crisp on the outside. The toast was toast, not burnt and crispy. The sausage gravy was wonderful as well. The biscuits with it were perfect, and the extra side of it was go for dipping my ham it. Thought it is rich and thick on its own, so finishing it took time.
As for service, it was excellent. Never once did my glass reach empty before my waitress return with a full glass. I never felt rushed, and as someone who likes to take his time and relax after eating, that was a bonus. Again, this will not be as likely during peak times.
The portions were quite large, and no single dish it got was over $9. In fact, the most expensive item on their breakfast menu was a $15 steak and eggs combo. So price/portion is very good.
In total, my bill, with 20% tip and tax, was $27. I left full and satisfied. I will not doubt return to try their lunch/dinner menu, and I look forward to...
Read moreThis was our second time here and it was strange.
My boyfriend wanted chicken and waffles and we were pleased to see that they had that on their daily specials menu. So he ordered it. When it came out it was nothing like what he thought it was going to be.
Both of us had never seen this monstrosity before and were very confused. He asked our server for clarification and stated that he thought it was going to be chicken tenders and waffles with syrup which is what the majority of people know chicken and waffles to be. Our server responded in what could seem to be a form of gaslighting, acting like we had 3 heads and came from another planet and responded with "Ew, no. This is the chicken over waffles that diners typically serve." It was left at that.
Thinking that we were just not knowledgeable in diner cuisine and it was our mistake, my boyfriend still tried to eat the dish and couldn't make it through more than a quarter of the waffle. It was underseasoned, barely had chicken, and from the looks of it was just old chicken noodle soup that they thickened and threw on top of a waffle.
We didn't ask for a discount and we didn't want to make a big deal out of it because honestly we just wanted to leave.
We left disappointed and honestly baffled. We even googled "chicken over waffles" and 90% of the images are the chicken tenders with waffles. I suggest labeling your dishes more appropriately. I understand Hanover has an Amish community, but labeling something like "chicken over waffles" as "Amish style chicken over waffles" or "Chicken gravy over waffles" would be a better choice.
Also we overheard one of your servers tell the hostess seating guests "Hey, there's guests ready to be seated and I'd prefer not to get them." Which seems like an unprofessional thing to do as a server in a resturant, especially when it was loud enough for...
Read moreI was really looking forward to loving this place. The parking lot has been packed every time we pass by. Unfortunately, that was not the case this morning. We arrived around 8 on a Saturday. We were seated with no wait however the young lady seating us, dressed all in black, nothing to indicate that she was an employee, never said good morning, hello, just said follow me as she passed by us. OK... Our waitress seemed nice enough, however we were not given silverware. When she brought out our drinks, she did not bring creamer for the coffee. I had to flag down another waitress to ask for creamer and silverware. And when our waitress finally returned because someone clearly told her that we needed her, she offered no apology when I told her why we were looking for her. Coffee was ok, nothing special. The food came quickly. Obviously, my waffle and bacon were made first because my food was cold, and my husband's steak and eggs were hot. The waffle came with hard butter that did not want to melt on the cold waffle of with the cold syrup that came with. The waffle flavor was good, but I would have love to try it at least warm. My husband's meal was fine. The eggs were scrambled to perfection, the potatoes were mushy but edible, the toast was so hard he didn't eat it, and the steak was covered in sausage gravy, not the normal white gravy that typically comes on country fried steak. It did have a good flavor, though so that is forgiven. And finally, when we arrived at the front counter to pay for our meal there were 2 young ladies working the counter more interested in laughing and joking about their personal life than taking care of the exiting customers. Overall, not a great experience, probably...
