I visited Folkart this evening to meet a friend, have a cocktail or 3 and check out the new place in the neighborhood. The place is very nice, clean, and spacious. What I didn't like was the way the bartender engaged with me. When I sat down, there was literally no one at her bar. Jasmine I think her name was. Not a soul. She came over, walked passed me, grabbed a menu, and gave it to me.
There was no real bartending interaction at all which was weird because as I stated before, the bar was empty. Considering this is a brand new establishment and gaining regulars/returning customers should be the aim, she didn't engage in anyway. It was very much understood that I was a black girl and I probably would be difficult/not tip. I had to even ask her what her name was. No suggestive options as far as food or drinks, nothing from her...
She asked what I wanted to drink, made the drink and then immediately asked what I wanted to eat... I noticed though other people (whites) walking in and they were definitely greeted and asked how they were doing. So sad, we want the world to respect us, but we don't even know how to be nice and respect one another. She was a beautiful black woman, just like me... I know for certain if I were a white man/woman, her interaction with me would've been much more upbeat and informative. Such a shame. I was also asked to see my ID, but when my friend arrived who is 9 years younger than me by the way, she did not ask for hers (so dangerous for the business, secret shoppers are real).
I only had a drink and when we began to leave, again remembering the restaurant was empty besides us and one other table, she didn't even say goodbye or nothing to us. We still tipped more than anyone else who sat at that bar her entire shift I'm certain.
My advice, there are ALL kinds of people who eat and dine in Hapeville. Don't judge your customers (bartending 101). I give 2 stars because the drink she made was okay and the place was very clean. Open...

After reading about the opening of Folk Art in Hapeville, GA, and carefully studying their menu from my hometown in Savannah, I knew I had no choice but to make the trip. And let me tell you—it was worth every mile of that four-hour drive. I’d happily do it again just to eat here.
From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed into a warm, inviting space filled with love, laughter, and the mouthwatering aroma of incredible food. The atmosphere strikes a rare balance—elevated like fine dining, yet comforting like a small-town kitchen. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but they did.
Every member of the team was not only professional but made you feel like part of the family.
And the food… oh my God, the food! The menu is a stunning blend of elevated Southern comfort and inventive American classics. Each dish is perfectly executed, the portions are generous, and most importantly—everything is absolutely delicious. Don’t forget about the bar—their expertly crafted cocktails are absolutely on point, especially on a warm summer day!
Folk Art Hapeville also hosts public events like live music and after-hours Drag Bingo. Finally, a place that truly has it all—and makes everyone feel welcome.
There really are no words to capture how special this place is. Hapeville is lucky to have it, and I sincerely hope they bring another location...
Read moreI love supporting my local businesses especially in the hapeville area. This was my 2nd time visiting and my first experience was amazing for breakfast! However, I tried their lunch... ordered fried green tomatoes for apps, ABLT w/ side of Collard Greens with country ham and fried flounder sandwich w/ cucumber avocado salad. Overall Quality of the food was between poor and decent. The description of Collard Greens with "country ham" was not accurate nor were these Collard Greens. It was served like warm and are pickled Greens with "city cured cubed ham". Secondly, the fried flounder sandwich was over fried that the flounder dried out into crumbs. Lastly, the service was poor and I was very disappointed and even hesistant to ask for anything as every response from our waitor was of irritation. We were charged for Chipotle mayo that was included with my meal and was afraid to even ask if it was included. The service provided greatly affects the quality of the food. Unfortunately, in this situation it was both. To the staff-Please review the menu items and do a test taste with your staff and Secondly, staff needs a review on customer service especially when waiting on the tip from your customers and rolling your eyes when walking away after you've received more than 18% gratuity in support of local restaurants despite the...
