We were excited to see that Smokey Mo’s BBQ opened in Harker Heights. Their location at Wolf Ranch in Georgetown has been on our list to try, so we were happy to see that we didn’t actually have to drive down to Georgetown! The place is still very new and looks great. There is not a lot of seating inside, but there is also some outdoor seating. All of the workers that we interacted with were friendly and helpful.
My wife got the 1 Meat Plate with brisket, creamed corn, and cole slaw. I got the 2 Meat Plate with brisket and turkey, cole slaw, and potato salad. Our son just got a meat plate with ½ lb brisket, ½ lb pork ribs, and ½ lb of jalapeno sausage, with a side of creamed corn. First, the star of the show, the brisket. All of us really liked the brisket. It was very lean (no moist), cut very thin, and was a little dry, but the flavor was very good, and the BBQ sauce went perfectly with it. Next time we’ll ask to get a mix of moist and lean brisket to compare. Regardless, this is good brisket! Next, the pork ribs. They were excellent. Meaty and no sauce required. They know how to cook ribs at Smokey Mo’s! The turkey was also very good. Nice smokey flavor and moist. I really liked the turkey. Same goes for the jalapeno sausage. It was very good. And the bonus….all three of the different sides that we got were great.
We had a great dining experience at Smokey Mo’s and highly recommend that you give them a try. It’s great that they are now open in Harker Heights! We...
Read moreCame by to try the new spot in Harker Heights the service was great and the aroma eas better than Mos I have been to in other places. I got a 3 meat plate with pork belly, ribs and brisket. The pork belly was just a little dry but the flavor was good and the ribs were solid as well. The brisket left much to be desired. I dont know if it was the cut I received but it was full of hard unrendered fat and there was absolutely no flavor or "bark" in the "bites" I took. The cream corn was on par with other good ones I've had and the potatoes were serviceable. I think them being baked and seasoned and then dressed with the chives, bacon and cheese would be better than them being boiled from what it appeared to me. Overall Mo's is what I would call serviceable BBQ but there are many within a 10-15 minute drive...
Read moreI went the day after they opened. There is an official Grand Opening on May 5th. The place is bright and the atmosphere is comfortable, the only hassle is getting in and out since they don’t have much parking. There is indoor seating and outdoor deck seating as well. I like that you can see the everything at the front counter while your food is being prepared. The food itself was really good. I’m had potato salad and green beans as my side with the 2 meat plate which were pork ribs and turkey. I had it one other time in Pflugerville and the quality was the same. I’m excited to have a BBQ spot right near my house! Make sure you download the app...
