Hookers Seafood Joint (Harrisburg) — Restaurant in Harrisburg

I've eaten here a few times, only ever getting the big fish sandwich meal, and I've been quite happy with each visit. I have no clue about the quality of the rest of the menu.

I order from Google Maps via Door Dash, which is easy to do and has never had any issues with processing. After selecting pick-up, making your order, and entering your payment info, you'll get a confirmation text/email with a time to pop in to get your food. The food has always been ready within that window, served piping hot and freshly made. The major downside of this method is that if you order a cold drink with your meal and it sits for a bit then your drink is probably going to end up warm due to the heat from the food.

The inside of the store is clean, though it shows some wear and tear in areas. The walk from the door to the counter has four tables that seat four on the left and two small tables that seat two on the right. The left side has a huge mirror that runs the length of the store and is covered in an art displace of wooden cubes stacked and arranged around the bottom half of the mirror. The walkway is quite wide, easily able to accommodate folks in a wheel chair with a lot of room to spare. The pickup counter is at the far end, where you could also just order on the touch screens if you walk-in to eat.

The fish sandwiches have always been great. The breading coats the fish quite well and sticks to it and the fish itself is always cooked well and they heap a generous amount of it on the bun. The amount of sauce is fine, though I wish there was more of it. Overall, a solid fish sandwich. The fries that come with the meal are crispy and have always been quite hot and have a good flavor, and they give you a huge pile. I like my fries more salty than what you typically get but I think that it is good that they don't overdo it so that others can choose to add more. It's a big, filling meal that tastes great.

The only "negative" thing about the place is the complete lack of service outside of a cook coming out of the back every now and then to put pickup orders on the rack. I've never seen someone working the counter, which makes some sense since the place doesn't handle cash, but it did make me wonder if the place was actually open the first time I walked into the room. I don't really mind the lack of interacting with the workers, but I feel like it might be confusing for others the first time they show up, so I figured that I'd mention it.

Definitely give this place a try if you're at the Square and are hungry as it's just right outside the college exit and across the small...

Hoooooo weeeeee!!! This place is a hidden gem. I stopped here with my family on a roadtrip and we (mom, dad, and two young boys) were not disappointed.

Location: easy to get to in downtown Harrisburg. Short drive from the highway. If you are roadtripping, make sure you plan a stop here. Seating for about 25 people inside

Food: we got the shrimp & crab fries and the whiting, shrimp, and cheesy grits combo. EXCELLENT choices. Everything we had was delicious. I am not a fan of grits, but these cheesy grits may well make me a convert. Do they sell the grits in 5 gallon buckets? The shrimp and fish breading was delicious. Excellent seasoning. Be sure to get a side of the hot and heavy sauce. Super tasty.

Just had a founder plate from this place for the first time tonight. Our usual fish joint “Sads Soul” was closed and our 3yr old was asking about fish. After reading all the amazing reviews, my husband and I thought this would be a great new spot to try……sadly, we were wrong.

The grits were amazing. I was impressed considering I am from the south. The founder was TERRIBLE! No amount of lemon juice and hot sauce could make the overcooked/under-seasoned fish edible!!! Y’all, I WAS STARVING TOO! The fish was suspect beyond the faults I described. It also tasted very very fishy. I have had flounder MANY times and this tasted nothing like flounder.
