It's a brand new restaurant opened just over 1 week and half ago. If you've been to Kondu at the Harrisburg Mall, this shouldn't be a stranger to you. If not, just think of Chipotles and Moe's Southwest Grills where you go through an assembly line to build your own -- EXCEPT you probably won't recognize many of the ingredients. Fear not! There are a few "Signature" ready-made recipes you can choose from. You can also be adventurous and pick everything or anything. Can't go wrong really. Just stay away from tuna/salmon if you cannot eat them raw. (Suggestion to Freshido: putting a label in front of each ingredient would go a long way.)
Unlike Kondu, even though the menu offers the Poke-rritos (burritos) option, 30 out of 30 people I saw on this visit ordered Poke Bowls. I find it remarkable that not a single soul ordered Poke-rrito. I was no exception -- but for me it was for the same reason I order Earmuff burrito bowls at Moe's: it's less messy and better value, IMO.
I went at the peak lunch hour today and the line wrapped around. It looked really long but it moved along really nicely. I got my turn after around 10 minutes. I built my own bowl with white rice and 2 scoops of salmon sashimi as choice of protein, plus a dozen others (see photo). It was fresh, healthful and tasty (right, downright Hawaiian). For $9.95, I think they've priced it to perfection. Any higher they'd probably price themselves out of the lunch crowd. Another thing I really like about this place is that they offer noticeably more ingredients than Kondu for the same price. For me that's enough of a catalyst for me to add an extra star. I would...
Read moreThe restaurant is set up similarly to Chipotle or Subway. You choose your rice (I've always had multigrain and it's delicious!) Then you choose your protein, veggies, and toppings/sauce. I've had several bowls here and they've all been good. The salmon bowl had fresh raw salmon and I really like the citrus sauce. The Freshido sauce is a teriyaki sauce and was very strong. I recommend asking for a smaller amount if you go for that type. Most recently I've had the sesame sauce, and that is definitely my favorite. You can order online and pick it up or go and pick out your...
Read moreThis is my favorite low key spot for a date night. It's affordable and delicious. If you are looking for a date night location, this spot is nestled right in strawberry square. There are lights strung up over the street and it's gorgeous at night. While this restaurant doesn't provide the cocktails that one might want to enjoy during an evening out, there are many bars and a couple more restaurants near by that serve alcohol. There's also a cute, authentic crepe spot just a hop skip and jump away for dessert. Easily my favorite area...
