Sundae School — Restaurant in Harwich

This place is popular. It’s almost like there aren’t enough ice cream shops on Cape Cod. They do make good ice cream. I wish they got more creative with flavors. Most all the options are some version of vanilla or chocolate with various mix-ins. Those that stray from that are also pedestrian flavors like strawberry, peppermint or a nut like maple nut. Sure it tastes fine, but it’s not very memorable. It’s good quality, don’t get me wrong. After standing in that line, I wish I could look forward to something unique, however. Then I would rave about this place. I had ice cream at six different shops by four brands in the week I visited the area, and I rank this as third best ice cream out of four, but it’s not far from number two. The rank order is 1- E&M, 2-JPL, 3- Sundae School 4-SHIC I will give massive kudos for the fact they take plastic! Note to other ice cream shops: nobody carries cash anymore, you’re hurting your employees tips, and your in-shop atms are a gross way to get a kickback from the atm fees. We were vacationing in the area and just happened upon this place and being vegan, I wondered if they had vegan ice cream, so we checked it out. They did, indeed, have vegan selections, so we got some. It was pretty good. High-priced for what you get, but at least they had something I could order, unlike most ice cream shops, so high marks for that. Big parking lot and it was pretty crowded, but we found a spot. Waiting in a long line with no social distancing and no one wearing masks but us and maybe two other people. Sad, but the whole area is like that. We got our ice cream and sat far away from others. Ever since they changed owners, this place has gone severely downhill. The inside is gutted, ugly, and FILTHY...what happened to the piano and pictures on the inside? They took all the personality away... Outside, the tables are always dirty and the trash is always overflowing. The staff seems to be getting slower and slower as well... it's frustrating to watch your servers chat with each other instead of making your ice cream while you've been waiting in line for 45 minutes.
