Just had the most disappointing experience at The Port. Let me say that we had a wonderful experience the first time we came so we brought friends back. Unfortunately the experience was not the same.
It began by being ignored by the hostess who was looking down at the seating chart. Took several minutes before she acknowledged me and said they'd be with me in a minute
They wanted our menus before we had even ordered because they were short menus
Service was extremely slow and the quality of the food was disappointing. The raw bar shrimp are $6 each and very small and tasteless . The manager gave some kind of lame excuse about the type of shrimp they sell and larger shrimp are pumped up with hormones. I might believe her except they did not taste like the quality product she claimed they sold.
The hot lobster roll came out cold, completely dry (no butter) and with the wrong fries (standard fries and not the truffle fries described in the menu) when we received the correct fries they were tasteless, oversalted, and lacking truffle flavor. We sent it all back
When we complained to the manager she said she would remove the lobster roll from the bill ( as if she was doing us a favor). I reminded her that she was removing the charge because we sent it back and did not consume it!
The final straw occurred when we received the bill which included a "large party fee" of 20% ( we were a party of 4) and a Toast fee (which is a pass through from using a credit card). Toast is a popular POS system that most restaurants use and this is the first time I've been charged for it. There is also no mention of it on the menu. When my husband spoke the manager again she basically implied that this is a busy restaurant in a tourist area and our business was not important to her. I feel bad for the waitress who was doing her best. The one star for service reflects the attitude of management and her lack of customer service skills. And finally one of our party remarked that he'd seen cleaner bathrooms in gas stations. Another member of our party got an eyeful of a male patron using the men's room. Apparently closing the door isn't a thing? Classy establishment We were there for two hours. I advise you to...
Read moreExtremely rude. Hair in 2 plates. Restaurant manager came and said she wouldn’t take it off the bill. Then she sent the bar manager, which we never met previously, and insisted that they couldn’t do anything to rectify the issue and there was no way there was a hair and it was untrue because the board of health just came and cleared the restaurant. The hair was physically shown to the waitress. When we came back later that night for a drink, the bouncer insisted that the ladies who worked there demanded we not be allowed back in because we complained and asked for the owners contact info. 3 woman we’re not allowed in and refused service because they complained about a sanitary problem. Over $500 spent and the waitress demanded we leave because she had a party of 9 coming in and we were sitting at their table.. their table they sat us at. We couldn’t have been there more than an hour and a half. Would not recommend and would not come back. As residents of the Cape, we are disappointed in the poor local service. We went to a bar nearby and the staff there exclaimed that The Port is known for rude servers and poor customer service and that none of the places surrounding the restaurant would ever treat people the way they do. Unfortunately, I had heard that also but gave the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. I was clearly wrong. the other bar exclaimed that it’s not the first time they’ve heard that they’re rude and had even experienced it themselves.
The waitress and manager came out when the ladies were showing IDs and looked them in their eyes as they were told they can’t come in and laughed at them. Most unprofessional young ladies working. Very...
Read moreI had a rough experience at the Port.
We came in around 2pm looking for a late lunch. They have a big outdoor patio and in COVID times (and a sunny day) we thought this would be a good option. As soon as we walked in, we got asked if we were there for oyster hour, which sounded great, so we said yes and sat down.
We got menus, ordered drinks, picked our food, and went to order. Snafu number one: we tried to order oysters and a salad, and we got told that during oyster hour, they don't have a full menu, just raw bar (shrimp, lobster, oysters) and soups. Fine, but then why hand us a full menu when we walk in? Even better, give us a heads up before we sit down and order drinks!
We order the oysters and a bowl of clam chowder. Snafu number two: our waitress comes back and tell us that actually, there's no chowder either, just raw bar. Now I'm feeling really stuck - we're waiting for our drinks to arrive, so I can't leave, but I haven't eat anything all day and I'm starting to get shaky. I ask the waitress if we can get some bread and she says sure, then goes off again.
Snafu number three: she comes back and lets me know that I can get bread, but they weren't expecting to serve bread for another hour or so, so it'll take a bit to get it. The bread arrived nearly 20 minutes later.
The oysters were good and our drinks were fine, and when we finally got bread, I can't even tell you if it was actually good, but I devoured it as if it was the last piece of food on Earth.
Overall, I don't know what to think. This place seems so promising, but the lack of communication and the experience I had left a really bad taste...
