Rio Grande — Restaurant in Hattiesburg

I went there twice in one week. The first time I went, I had already eaten, so I just had a drink. The waiter, Christian, was kind and attentive. The friend who did eat said his tacos were bland. My second experience was the kicker. I went with another friend and we both ate. Spoiler alert, the first friend was right—the food has NO flavor. When we asked for our tickets, the guy says “oh, you’re not together?” and walks off as we laugh “nooo”. He returns with two checks and said “I thought y’all were a couple.” My friend says, “no, he’s my friend; I have a wife”, as she hods up her wedding band. He says “a wife?”, and she smiles and says “yeah...”. Well, apparently he thought he needed a blessing because he did the sign of the cross, as if to say she’s unholy. She asked why but he gave no response and didn’t acknowledge her the remainder of our time in the restaurant. He told me “have a good day my friend”, but didn’t even look at her. He is no friend I want. Ever. Even if the food would have been spectacular, his actions ruined our entire experience. Discrimination is NOT cool. I was in search for new Mexican Restaurant I could call my own. I used to go every week with my friend on the coast but I moved about 4 years ago. The waiters are so nice and attentive. The food is excellent. The margaritas complemented the food. Only thing is. Last time I was there I felt like the owner did not want me there. In the span of one week, I spent over $120 at his restaurant. He barely acknowledged me and when I needed a refill and he walked by I reached out and he said your waiter will get it and he kept walking. He was behind me laughing and talking with a girl he must have known, I do not know. The only reason I can think of his treatment is my credit card did not go through and they tried it all kinds of ways. I had to call the bank for them to allow the charge. And the thing is it was not that they were declining me but they were declining them because it showed they were being fraudulent. But anyway, I am gonna have to find another place. WOW!! How else to say it? Awesome, honestly. I'm a traveler. I've been all over the country. I stopped in Hattiesburg to get some things from Office Depot. I was hungry so I went searching. Found Rio Grande Restaurant. WHAT A FIND!!! Excellent!! Best tasting Mexican Food I've had in the USA up to this point in my life and travels. I'm 53 and travel every where. So that's saying a lot. Yes! Absolutely the best tasting Mexican Food I've had in the USA!!! You will love the decor also. I highly recommend this place, not just to the locals in Hattiesburg, but to anyone visiting or wanting some great flavor and a comfortable experience. Que te vaya bien amigos. ...
