Iāve been visiting Aumakua Kava Lounge since 2020 and have truly enjoyed watching it grow into what it is today. Itās an authentic PÄŹ»ia gem offering the best kava on Maui, in my opinion. They feature a variety of kava selections, including a locally grown HawaiŹ»i option, along with retail items and full kava kits for those who want to bring the experience home.
What really sets Aumakua apart is their take on traditional tiki-style drinks ā all crafted with kava instead of alcohol. Each one is beautifully made, all natural, and completely alcohol-free, offering a fun and mindful twist on the classic island cocktail experience.
Beyond the drinks, Aumakua shines in its dedication to education, cultural knowledge, and respect for the roots of kava. The team is incredibly welcoming, making both newcomers and seasoned kava lovers feel right at home. The space itself is community-focused, family-friendly, and filled with good vibes ā even kids are welcome to join in the relaxed atmosphere.
If you havenāt been yet, go. Itās an absolute must when...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe Aumakua Kava Lounge is one of my favorite go to spots on Maui ! Adesh the owner and creator is a lovely human who extends her grace and positive energy through her charming bar and exotic and yummy kava drink offerings. Ever since she opened the doors in the winter of 2020 I have enjoyed frequenting the bar several times a week to dance, socialize and meet old and new friends and sample all of the different varieties of kava and non kava drinks! Itās obvious that she takes pride in her business by the surroundings that are warm and welcoming with the mermaid style theme (lights, blue ocean wallpaper) and other sweet details. When you step foot inside you are Immediately transported to another time and space in the best of ways! Thereās often live local talented musicians and or DJs to help create a fun and lively atmosphere. I highly recommend whether you are a local or a visitor to our beautiful island to make the Aumakua Kava Lounge a priority and a regular activity in your life! I canāt imagine my social life without...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I came here when waiting for our reservation at Mama's fish house. It is definitely a hole in the wall place and is smaller to other Kava bars we have been to on the island. The Kava tasted good but felt like more of a party vibe then a chill vibe for Kava. The bartender told us that we would need 15-20 shots of Kava to really feel the effects and that seems like an awfully lot. We drink Kava at home in Florida and those bars have a two drink maximum. It is pretty bizarre to me that this place would serve someone that much. Kava is a very relaxing beverage and does not need to be binged on like that. It is irresponsible telling guest they need to drink that much. My wife and I shared a bowl with 6 shots of Kava in it and this is considered a ton for us. The bartender made us feel like we were light weights who had barely had anything to drink. Don't pressure customers please just ensure they are comfortable and have a good time. The town of Paia is interesting after sunset so would avoid...
