Island Ono Loa Grill stands as a beacon of culinary excellence, particularly celebrated for its incredible burgers and fries. Upon stepping into this charming eatery, one is immediately enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that promises not just a meal, but a delightful dining experience. The burgers at Island Ono Loa Grill are nothing short of legendary. Each burger is a masterpiece of flavors, crafted with the freshest, high-quality ingredients that speak volumes of the care and passion infused into every dish. But it's not just the taste that sets these burgers apart; it's their generous size. So monumental are these burgers that they present a delightful challenge even for the heartiest of appetites. This makes them perfect for sharing, especially for families looking to treat their keiki (children) to a sumptuous, satisfying meal. Splitting one of these colossal burgers among the younger ones not only makes for an enjoyable, family-friendly dining experience but also instills the joyous spirit of sharing. Then there are the fries – a perfect companion to the burgers. These are not your ordinary fries. They are a crispy, golden delight on the outside with a soft, fluffy interior, seasoned to perfection, making each bite an absolute pleasure. The portion size is just as generous as the burgers, ensuring that there's more than enough to go around. Beyond the delectable food, it's the overall experience that truly sets Island Ono Loa Grill apart. The staff's attentiveness and genuine kindness add a special touch to the meal, making patrons feel valued and cared for. The ambiance, with its cozy and inviting decor, complements the culinary excellence, making every visit memorable. In conclusion, Island Ono Loa Grill is a gem that offers not just meals, but memorable dining experiences. Whether you're sharing a giant burger with your keiki, indulging in the savory delight of perfectly made fries, or simply soaking in the friendly atmosphere, a visit to this grill is guaranteed to be a highlight. A testament to the spirit of Aloha, Island Ono Loa Grill truly is a place where every bite is filled with love and every visit feels like coming home.

For years we had seen the sign on Ali'i saying "Voted Yelp's 8th best burger in the US." Curiosity got the best of us and we finally decided to give it a try. Island Ono Loa Grill is located tucked into the back of Ali'i Sunset Plaza in Kailua-Kona, just off the waterfront. Excellent location, especially if the sun has already set, or sunset meals aren't a big deal to you. Looking at the menu, you quickly see that their 'off the waterfront' location nicely translates to lower prices than what you'll find in the restaurants with a view. Island Ono Loa Grill offers and variety of different burgers, hot dogs, and an assortment of other meal options. Their offerings range from typical to what could be considered highly unusual. The two others in my group ordered the basic cheeseburger, and the hamburger steak, respectively. When I saw that there was a peanut butter, bacon cheeseburger offered, I was at first a little taken back but I just couldn't get the idea out of my head so I decided "what the heck" and through caution to the wind. All three burgers as well as the accompanying fries were fantastic! The fries weren't as crispy as I like, with the flavor was excellent. All the burgers were top notch. All in all, I'd say Yelp got it right and those burgers are pretty dang tasty. I highly recommend you give it a shot.

Was pretty excited to try this place out. Amazing reviews and food looked amazing. We ordered a spicy fried chicken sandwich, Ono loa Loco, and kalua pork Loco moco. I hope it's a new chef or something but most of it was incredible over seasoned and way too salty. No one finished their dish. The chicken sandwich when ordering online has options for adding "extra" veggies or having "no" pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and so on with no option for regular. The description does say chicken, aioli, mayo, pickels, only but a bit confusing if you're just looking for a regular amout of lettuce, onions, and pickles. The real killer was the amount of salt. The fries were heavy on the garlic salt which can be whatever but the chicken tasted like it fell into a bucket of salt. The Ono loa Loco looked amazing but when you got to the burger it was so overpowering with salt I couldn't taste any other seasoning. After a few bites I couldn't stomach any more. The Mac salad was pretty good but a little plain. That or my taste buds were blown out from the patty. The pork had patches of crazy salt amounts as well. Some bites were good and juicy, great pork and others were like eating a spoonful of table salt. Asked for extra ranch for onion rings and fries and even paid the 99 cents for "extra" ranch and got one small plastic cup. Again if it doesn't come with anything can you really call it extra? We wrote in the notes and we're more than will to pay for it as we added "extra" but it just wasn't there. When I picked up the order I even mentioned it and she picked up the one cup and showed me so I assumed the others were in the containers. On a positive note they were great with time expectations and having things, regardless of quality, ready when they said they would.

Great value for their signature dish (rice, macaroni, eggs, pork, burger, onion rings). You get a tonne of food for 19.99. It’s cooked when you order it. So expect to wait 15-20 mins. Now, here are the issues. First, the rice is undercooked. They are mildly hard. They could have cooked it for few more minutes. The center of the burger isn’t cooked through. They could have asked how we want it cooked. Undercooked ground beef can have sanitation issues, which is different than steak. Kalua pork is quite decent but there’s no surprise. Eggs and onion rings are well cooked. I like that the macaroni salad is seasoned to a somewhat sour flavor which couples well with the fattiness of the rest of the food items. Love that they are green (won’t give out plastic bag unless specifically requested, so bring your own bag if ordering to-go. To score 5/5, cooking skill needs to improve.
