This hidden gem is a must-visit! Lovely staff, fabulous food, and a homey ambience. We ordered three dishes: #21 - eggplant with tofu, #42 Sichuan boiled beef, and #49 - fish fillet w/ hot garlic sauce. A hearty and tasty meal that was incredibly affordable. The dishes were all authentically Chinese as well. My family stumbled upon Taka when searching for dinner at around 8:30pm on a weekday night. We were hesitant to try Taka at first (because the dining area didn't have a lot of customers), but this was only natural because most of the activities and restaurants in Kona close at 9pm. I'm incredibly glad that we did. This spot is super underrated. It has comprehensive options ranging from Japanese sushi rolls to authentic Chinese dishes -- really anything anyone craving Asian food (or any good food for that matter) could want. It's also worth mentioning that this is only Chinese restaurant in the Kailua-Kona area. The staff was also generous with their attention and provided some of the best service we've ever experienced. All in all, try Taka out! It'll be worth it so many times over. We can't wait for the next time we're back to...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt I had to share this experience. The food here was extremely disappointing. • Orange Chicken – Barely resembled chicken; it felt like I was eating fried batter with sauce, no real meat inside. • Egg Rolls – Soggy and unappetizing. • Fried Rice – Tasted old and reheated, not fresh at all. • Sushi (Tuna & Salmon) – Did not taste fresh and left me questioning the quality.
We paid nearly $70 for two people, and I genuinely regret it. The portion sizes weren’t the issue—it was the quality. I had seen positive reviews before coming here, which made me hopeful, but I honestly felt deceived. Perhaps dining in is a different experience, but the takeout was absolutely terrible.
To make matters worse, after trying a few bites, I couldn’t eat any more. I ended up giving the rest away. That should never happen after spending that much money on a meal.
I don’t usually like writing harsh reviews, but for anyone considering ordering takeout here: save yourself the...
Read moreI accidentally found this place on Google Maps when many other restaurants were crowded.
It's a small, local restaurant that made me feel like I was back in Asia. It seems to be family-owned, and the owner's child was there with the parents.
They offer both Japanese and Chinese food, so we tried both. We ordered orange chicken (just for fun, to compare it with orange chicken from Panda Express). It was surprisingly good. The chicken was crispy, and the sauce wasn't sweet but tasted more like an authentic Chinese dish—sour and salty, but not sweet.
All the sushi we tried were great. The tofu skin-wrapped roll was interesting and tasted healthy, but my favorite was the dragon roll.
I know there are a lot of authentic Japanese restaurants in Hawaii, but if you like American-Japanese style restaurants, I recommend stopping by. The service was nice, and the food...
