We stopped at K’s Drive-In while passing through Hilo. It’s got that old-school local vibe, nothing fancy, just a big menu, good prices, and a steady flow of locals coming through.
I had the kalua pork burger, and it was solid. Smoky, flavorful, and way better than I expected for something that came out of a little walk-up diner. The portions were generous, and the prices felt fair for what you get.
The twist cone after lunch hit the spot, definitely worth trying if you stop by.
Staff was friendly and helpful, even with my kids asking a bunch of questions about the menu. It’s not super quick, but they take care with the orders.
Only downside was the cleanliness, some parts of the kitchen looked like they could use a deep clean, and one of our other dishes was way too salty. Also had a small card fee tacked on at checkout that I wasn’t expecting.

Read moreStopped at this place on a humbug after the whole family got off the plane and Hilo and we're famished. It would have been cheaper to go to the grocery store and take food back to the BRBO and cook but hunger and a desire for local fairs persuaded us. I had the beef teriyaki it was delicious my daughter had the chicken plate it was so so we tasted this Saturday special Portuguese bean soup which actually had ham in Portuguese sausage in it it was tasty enough. The burgers and fries were good for the kids but the burgers were a little small for the adults. Met local people who are nice the staff was very good at explaining all the different options on the menu and overall it was a great experience. I love my food not so sure about everyone else it was pretty average for them but I...

And K's is the kind of place I've always "HANG OUT". I LOVE the old mustard/mayonnaise yellow sauce on the hamburgers, lunchrooms, okazuyas, saimin stands and of course Drive-Inns. And as MANY people know, there has been MANY drive inns in the past, and most of them have since closed. I am ecstatic that we still have places like K's. It's nothing fancy, just good old "solid" grinds. Portions have always been good, taste has always been good, prices have always been good, and selection has always been good. Hard to beat...
