I don't like to leave bad reviews, as I know how they impact small businesses. However, we were highly disappointed with the take-out we received from Krua Thai and felt it was worth reviewing. Compared to other Thai restaurants on island (or anywhere for that matter), we felt the quality and portions of the food were extremely poor. The green papaya salad did not have a good flavor (it was borderline terrible), the fresh basil rolls were bland (we also didn't like there were only two long rolls and not cut into smaller pieces - we noticed after the fact that it also didn't include any type of protein like shrimp or tofu as most other restaurants use), and our curries were the biggest complaint. The flavor of the green panang curries were good but it was 80% curry, only 20% of what is supposed to be in the curry. We ended up drinking most of it. The curry only filled up half of the take out container, we were downright shocked at how little we received for nearly $17 each. The chicken tasted old, similar texture to rubber. Our bill totaled almost $55 for a salad, basil roll and two curries. To say we were shocked with what we received for the price would be an understatement. Unfortunately, despite their more desirable location in comparison to other restaurants on the island, we will not...
Read moreLove the variety of curries here (most Thai restaurants have only green, yellow and red.) My husband and I enjoy the Masssaman curry- a deep and sweet flavor with potatoes and onions and peanuts. We tried the Panang Curry today, reminds of Thom Kha soup because of those fragrant lime leaves (see pic). Will try local fruit curries next time.
Thom Kha soup here is okay (the Royal Thai in Keauhou Shopping mall is much more flavorful and more generous with meat portion. Also, the Thom Kha in Waimea at Parker Ranch mall best overall on island in our opinion on soup, just FYI.)
The atmosphere is clean, sweet staff, nice decor. Would recommend curries here for sure. Oh, and the "wingers" (little chicken wings fried perfectly and seasoned tastefully) were excellent here. We tried the chicken satay last time, also good, but we are best connoisseurs of Thom Kha, heh.
Expect to pay around $20 per curry (unless lunch weekday special ) We appreciate ability to upgrade to sticky rice instead of jasmine here at Krua, also. Bit of an upcharge ($2) but worth it for the texture- almost like dessert for us. (Yah, yah we know it ain't as nutritious but desserts rarely are.) Overall, great restaurant to try, within easy walking distance to...
Read moreI try and go here once a week or every other week for lunch. Their noodles and noodle soups have just the right amount of veggies to noodle combination. You can ask for it to be mild or medium or hot spiced. I usually go for the medium and it is perfect in my humble opinion. I am always greeted by their friendly and courteous staff and I am always seated right after walking through the door. It gets quite busy there doing lunch hour and I imagine dinner, although I have never been to dinner there because I just can't wait long enough for dinner hour to roll around. I want my medium spiced Tom Yum noodle soup with shrimp NOW and a glass of water rounds out a perfect lunch. Delicious food full of flavor. Great friendly staff makes you feel like you matter to them. They will even remember your order if you go for the no fail same as always order as I do. Give it a try. Find a parking spot in either the lot below or off to the side. It is a popular spot so sometimes you have to really look or wait for a stall to open up, but you will...
